Default concern about my header install

yea i just put on some lt headers on and started it with open headers and when i first started it the rpm gauge was bouncing up between 1000 and 2000 i shut it off and then it just stayed at about 1000 and was going down when it was warming up. would that be normal for the first time it started up or whats the problem

I wouldn't think so, I don't know why it would have idled higher if that was the case. Did you gap the plugs? Mabie check for vaccume hoses and make sure one didn't get pulled off or got a hole or something. When i got my car a vaccume hose that hooked up to the egr system got a hole in it and pinched shut, this caused the car to idle crazy..

negatory, i just did mine and started it up with open headers and it idled at 900 RPM right off the bat.

did you install your block off plugs? all your header bolts tight, did you install a freeze plug in your EGR hole in your intake, if you didnt delete EGR is everything tight?

just the PCM searching for stuff. did you unhook your battery? my battery went dead this winter and after i got a new one it idled around 3k and ran like ****, as soon as i turned it off and back on it ran fine.

however, when i did my header install, i took the battery out completly, and put it back in after i was done and it started up just fine.

thats why, the PCM was just hunting for a tune.

but it had nothign to do with backpressure. the PCM doesnt monitor that.

that could be why.......

when my battery went dead, i tried to start it. but when my headers were going on, i didnt try to start it untill it was hooked back up. so my guess is the PCM on mine didnt notice the battery was gone because i didnt try to start it. on yours it went so long without power it probably reset itself. im sure it has capacitors in it that eventully go dead.
