LS6 MAF on LS1
Im looking at an LS6 MAF "tuned" for my 98 LS1, cost $149. I understand that it'll probably get me NO gains, im okay with that. Here's my reasons:
1- My current MAF is shot anyway, need a new one to pass SMOG.
2- looking ahead: I have LTs sitting in my garage right now, And i'll also be throwing on LS6 manifold and a ported TB in the near future, too. Which means i'll have full intake AND exhaust. I only want to buy a MAF once, not twice.
3- After intake/exhuast installed, I'll be doing a full tune, so my tuner can tweak with the entire system anyway.
Given all these reasons, would you guys who have experience with almost full bolt-ons and a cam still say the LS6 MAF would be a waste of $$$, and sticking with a new OEM replacement is my best bet?? Or is this an acceptable risk, and even if I see no gains, its about half the price of an SLP or GMS MAF?
Thanks for your time and input

You aren't going to find a MAF "Tuned" for anything. They don't come pre-tuned. Pick up a stocker for cheaper and just replace. It is not the fact that you won't get more power as much as throwing a blue horse in with the white ones. I would replace it stock for stock unless you are tuning to go SD and deleting the MAF all together.
GMS 85mm Z06 Conversion Kit
--> "Specifically calibrated for your 98-02 LS1 powered F-body. Includes current 2001 ZO6 85mm Maf meter, sleeve, clamp and wiring harness adapter"
orangeapeel: I guess I should have put that up in the first post. So I'll see no benefit, but is there a harm in having the LS6 MAF on there... or am i still thinking in "noob-think"?
Yeah, you will have the same results. I would only do it for 2 reasons.
1. Going with a 90/90 setup.
2. Replacing the stocker, and going with the 90/90 setup in the future.
I will be the first to tell ya. I have a Delphi 85mm on my Z28. It does have an SD tune for spring and summer, but I plug the maf back in for winter and fall (Seems to run better, I don't know why). Basically that is the same as the ZO6 maf. It would have been a waste of money if I didnt pick it up at a swap meet for 45$.
Only reason I did it. Plus I was able to sell my stocker for about 75. So I made money off of switching, and lucked out that I had EFI Live to make sure that I wasn't hurting anything. I saw no dyno difference and no street difference in switching. Just makes your Mechanical ***** larger to say that you have an 85mm vs. a 75mm MAF.
...isnt that why you got your LS1 in the first place?? Remember, any one of us on this site could be driving a Civic... God knows that MY Mechanical ***** thanks me every day for sticking with the LS1.
