Default Best coil pack relocation setup?

I could do it myself, but I hate doing electrical work and rewiring my 79 Bandit TA has me burned out on wiring for the next year or so.

I want to do the coil pack relocation on my 98 TA and want to see what the best kit would be. The Thunder Racing seems to be my best bet right now, but I seem to remember there was a similar one that was supposedly better, but I just can't seem to remember what it was or where to get it.

I want these suckers up under the cowl and outta the way so people can see my valve covers and things after I powdercoat them.

the only other one I can think of was the Jay Fisher pontiac one. I'm thinking it was very similer to thunders. If you can find wires the brackets aren't very hard to make at all.

Make your own kit. Its the wires that are going to cost you.

Yeah, but the brackets are only an extra $50 over the cost of the wires. ****, I can make more than that powdercoating in the time it takes me to make them. I'll just order up the TR kit, it is the same as the JFP kit according to Thunder's website.

Having been there done that this is what I would do if I did it again. I made my own brackets and bought the wires from Thunder. I wouldnt buy the wires or brakcets from Thunder this time around. The wires are the Taylors and they fall apart to easy as well as being way to thick to use effectively.

Make your own brackets and wires and save $100.

You know, in looking at their kit that **** does look easy. I'll definitely try it myself, I've got spare aluminum angle sitting around, might as well give it a shot.

I got the aluminum spacers at my local hardware store and the threaded rod is too easy. Then all you need to do is make an angle bracket to attach the coil bracket you made to and attach to the cowl. You dont need a 90* drill either. You need to experiment with the location though as it will make taking the valve covers off impossible if you locate them to close to center of the car.

crude drawing here but you get the idea the brackets to hodl the coild are in black. The threaded rod is green and the bracket to attach to the cowl is red.

What plug wires did you end up using? I'm gonna hide them as far back and out of the way as I possibly can. I'm gonna start on this soon, gonna powdercoat up the brackets and hide everything.

Put a drawing into my previous post of my bracketology. I bought the wires from Thunder but I wont do that again. Way freaking expensive and then one seperated as I was checking a plug. Dont get Taylor wires. Get MSD's and custom length them yourself. I'm looking for supplies right now for making wires. MSD all the way though from now on.

my crude drawing is all you need. it goes under the cowling, you need to remove some plastic peices and your windshield wipers.

you need threaded rod, aluminum spacers and nylon insert nuts.

there are pics in previous threads as well
heres all you need to seee to figure it out. I'll put a kit together for you, pm me if interested.

Here's something I saved off of ls1camaro.net a while back; hope it helps:

The Reckless $10 Coil Relocation Mod
Reckless, 2002-12-15

I simply bought a length of threaded 1/4" rod, 8 nylon lock nuts to fit the rod, and some 10-15" black tie wraps.

-Slide the rod through 4 of the coils and cut the rod to length leaving about an inch or two on each end
-Thread a lock nut onto each end to hold the coils on the rod
-Thread another nut onto each end of the rod
-You should have about and inch or so between the nuts on each end
-Drill two small holes in the plastic cowling for each end of the rod (under the weather stripping)
-Using a fairly thick tie wrap, thread a tie wrap through the holes (one for each side)
-Loop the tie wraps (now hanging under the cowl) around each end of the rod between the nuts on the end, and pull them tight

This will hold them quite secure, and they can be removed easily at any time by snipping the tie wraps. Makes changing plugs and other stuff a breeze. Just tie wrap them back up when completed.

Just buy a set of wires for an LT1 and cut them to the length you need. LT1 wires have the right type of end to work on the LS coils.
