are 1 7/8 headers overkill on mild cam only
Hi, i am planning on having an ls6 intake, tsp228r, and headers installed. I found a set of American Racing headers but they are 1 7/8. I know most people get a set of 1 3/4 but in this case i dont have a choice. Do you think i would be alright with these. Thanks

They may also require grinding clearance into the K member.

If he got a great deal on them then there is no reason to not use them.

If bigger were always better, then funny cars would be running sewer drains for headers.
Seriously though, there is a point of diminishing returns. Will you see more power over stock manifolds? Of course. Will you see more power with a 1 7/8 inch header over a 1 3/4 inch header on a stock cubed motor? Highly unlikely. I've read about and watched tests performed on engine dynos proving it.
If I were you, I'd either take the headers, try to sell & make a profit on them, and buy something good OR I wouldn't even waste my time and go straight to buying something good.
In the end, it's his car and he can do whatever he wants. No skin off my back. But, you ask for my opinion and I'll gladly give it.

A 1 3/4 header will have a better across the board gain which will get you down the track faster. If you never see below 5500 then a larger header might be better.

If you have plans for added cubes and/or a power adder down the road...go for it, especially if you're getting a great deal! A little extra gear out back can help you overcome the bit of lower end power you'll lose and you'll have room to grow into them! Enjoy.
