Wow.. you lost me.. So you think that your loosing low end because of a ported MAF?

Were you spinning or did youn dead hook for that race?

Welcome to the LS1. W/ stock gearing and a stock motor, LS1's do not make much power below 3000 rpm's. You aren't doing anything to cause it, thats the nature of the motor.

Without good gearing and a 12 bolt, A4's will pull better 60 foots.

Here are some things you can do to help out the low end a ton: Pullies, 4:10 gears, headers. The gears alone will make the car feel like a whole new beast.

Yeah, I know A4s will pull better 60s than M6s, but mine's an A4. The one I was racing was just like mine.. same color even, just his was stock. And no I wasn't spinning, I don't think my car has ever gripped as well as it did that night.

3 things.

1. you have 2.73's, dont expect to have all kinds of grunt off the line (what gears did your buddy have?)
2. PUT IN A TQ CONVERTER! #*(&$#!
3. How bout trading MAF's with the guy between races....??

oh yeah.....have you a-tapped to see what your numbers look like. im a lot slower than a lot of guys, but i know why.

Default Am I killing my bottom end?

I have an 02 Z with the SLP lid, SLP ram air, & K&N filter as the only engine mods. The car has little power under 3000 rpms, but by mid track (1/8th mile) it starts pulling really hard. Racing another Z (stock) both autos, his 60' time was about .5 better than mine but my 1/8th et was about .3 better than his. I have since ported/descreened the MAF. I was thinking of the 96 Cobra that a friend has, and thinking about the way the valves work, half stay closed under a certain rpm to avoid loss of low end power. I'm wondering if that's the story with mine. Not enough air velocity?

Didn't know yours was an A4. 2:73 geared stock converter cars are DOGS outta the hole, no offense. Slap some 3:73's in there and a decent size verter. You'll be running 1 full second faster and pull 60 foots that slam you in the seat.

He doesn't have to have 2.73's if the performance axle ratio is in there he could have 3.23's I've got 3.42's on mine (SS) but still ther real fun begins above 3k rpm

GU2 = 2.73
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42

the performance axel refers to 3.23s option for an automatic.

A good 3000 - 3500 stall torque converter like a Yank 3000 or SuperYank 3500 will cure those bottom end blues and eliminate the dead spots on the upshift. Best mod you can make for an A4.

Could be all in the driving, too.

True, it could be the driving, but let's look at my timeslip from thursday at Kennedale.

r/t - sucked
60 ft - 2.030
330 - 5.579
1/8th - 8.500
mph - 84.77

Was the first (and best) run of the night. My worst was a 2.106 60 ft @ 8.634. Only mods are bolted on before the throttlebody. That still could be the driving I suppose, but I doubt it. I did pretty well, comparatively.

I too have felt that my 00' A4 w/3.23's(few bolt-ons) feels kind of weak off the line or at low speeds. I can honestly say that my old 00' 3.8L Camaro w/3.42's felt almost as fast down-low even though it probably really wasn't. Where I feel the power of the LS1 is from speeds of 50 and higher. Almost like a turbo kicks in. LS1's just don't make much torque off idle or in the low rpms.

Get better gears and an upgraded stall converter and you'll no longer have that problem.

If you want to take care of low end then do this:

Build a new 434 with a 4" stroke and 4.155 bore
Put in a 12-bolt with 4:56 ratio
4400 or so stall converter
12:1 compression
Decent sized cam
Et Drags

Id you do this you will be happy!
