Default FIPK guys inside...

I have FIPK,very happy with it.
BUT I want to experiment with it.Here's my thought-
Since I have no front bumper support and no washer reservior,
I was thinking of relocating the filter down in front(kinda like a corvette).Running
a hose around the latch.Don't worry about how I'm going to do it(I haven't quite
figured it out yet)But is there any draw backs to a longer hose?
The thought just popped into my head last night.
What do you guys think?
If it works you can kiss my 'no-hot-air-suckin' ****!

After looking at it,I don't see any real advantage to moving it.
But I am going to grind down the lip on the frame directly in front
of the filter.Maybe then I'll only lose 15rwhp instead of 20.
P.S. I did track test it,but will not post results.
It will only cause more arguements.
Let's just say the lid IS NOTgoing back on.

This weekend I'm going tgo drill some 1&1\2 inch holes in the metal part. Just above were the air comes up behind the radiater, run the holes the entire length of the black metal piece. I think this will let is more fresh air and maybe make it a little more effective. I'm not sure how many holes i can fit but i will put as many as I can. I was happy with mine until all the bad post, but I'm just going to stick with it.

I felt a little difference and installed and it show up on the dyno (15hp).

Just have to race all the guys with the lid and see

someone at the track gave me a great idea today and im figuring since i did the free ram air mod with my stock box, i still have that big slit i cut in the plastic beneath the block-off plate of the fipk so i will just cut the same slit in the block-off plate and i will still have the fra with the fipk. can't hurt!

I was thinkin gof trying the FRA myself.. then I was thinking you could even go a step further and put like FTRA in there, to really funnel the air up to the FIPK..
I am considering selling my FIPK, I was dissapointed with its performance at the Track Saturday, but I dont have a Lid to compare against..
Also have any of you noticed a drop or gain in Fuel economy? my fuel economy sucks on my convertible with this, I drive 80% highway and seem to average 18-19 mpg, and can squeeze out only 20 if I drive ultra conservative.. I do also have the 85mm low cost Gran. MAF, might be that..

my gas mileage has been about exactly the same after i put on my FIPK. i personally like the gains i have recieved with this thing. i went from running consistent 13.70's stock to running consistent 13.50's with the fipk. i want to polish my MAF ends and throttle body next and see what that can do for me.

I remember Shaun Sonnenberg had the Titan many years ago and he removed it cause it caused pinging in the summer months in AZ. He figured that the hot summer temps in conjunction to the hot engine heat cause it. The Titan was very similar to the FIPK.

I drilled 112 holes underneath the filter on my FIPK the other day. It took awhile, use a good drill bit!

i think someone touched on this before, but what about cutting out the area on the heat shield directly underneath the filter element; if you're already running FRA then that should give you better gains by exposing most of the filter to air and also eliminating the trapped hot air

I don't have an FIPK...yet, so forgive my ignorance with this question. What exactly is the purpose of the heat sheild? I'm just wondering (as good an idea as it may sound in order to get more cool air to the filter) if cutting a hole in it is actually defeating it's intended purpose.
