GM tech says no muffler hurts power
I talked to a GM tech today and he said that not having a muffler kills your low end. So I told him that since the exhaust can flow easier I will still gain a smidgeon of top end hp. He pretty much called me a bullshitter.

Dealership techs aren't authorities on performance modification
He's referring to back-pressure- or lack thereof
With stock manifolds/cats etc. it's not a worry to consider.
Atap and MAFT fixes up aaaaaaany problem with bolt-ons . . . or take-offs

Re: GM tech says no muffler hurts power
It's true most of us racers run as much muffler as possible because free flowing exhaust really chokes power off. Oh and don't run NOS it will blow your engine.

Hehe.. I run 1" 7/8 Headers, 2" 7/8 OR Y pipe to a open cut-out at the track. Torque is never a problem

I'm planning on running two Flowmasters inline with a 2" I-pipe to boost my torque output.
I wonder when those Fuel guys will figure it out and cap off those headers with little mufflers for more torque...

Re: GM tech says no muffler hurts power
There is a 1 psi difference in backpressure with no muffler. I tested it. It went from 5 to 4. Those numbers might be off by a tenth but you get the picture. You have PLENTY of backpressure to spare!!!!

LOL......
Do not take your peformance advice from a GM tech. Some of them are excellent when it comes to REPAIRING cars, but you will find that most GM techs are lost when it comes to modifying unless they have been working on cars as a hobby for several years...
I have a few guys working in my shop that are some of the best damn mechanics I have ever seen. Probably nothing out there they couldn't fix but they wouldn't know the first thing about making an LS1 faster.

Do you want summer air or winter air in those tires? LOL
90% of the time don't believe anything anyone at a GM dealership tells you.
WIZKID, was that test with or without cats?
