Default FLP banging...Anyone know how to resolve this?? Problem Resolved

Well I took the car over to FLP to have the exhaust fixed due to it banging. Got the car back yesterday. Get in the car start it up put it in first gear let out the clutch and bam bam WTF still banging, but now in first gear. Doesn't bang in reverse anymore or on the down shift which is a good thing, but 1st and 2nd I get a bang, even in 3rd when the rpms get up a little (under normal accel) it then rattles until you give a little more gas.

Now for the question: Does anyone know as to what I can do now to get it to stop banging. I was thinking that maybe I can wedge something between the bottom of the car and the pipe to stop the banging. What do you guys think. And does anyone else have this problem?

TIA..Michael

Well I got under there with a crow bar and pryed it down and that solved it, others have to put heat resistant tubing under there....

Try upgrading the factory trans mount to the 1LE unit. It is stiffer than your existing one and limits the amount of powertrain movement. Also may want to look in making a engine torque strap. Basically a bar that connects the motor to the chassis, also to limit travel.

Brian - Thanks man, I think that I will give the tubing a try this weekend

99MONGOOSE - so you think that the trans mount will help. I was told that by FLP, but wasn't sure as to how much it would help out. I hear that you can order one from SLP for like 20.00. When I look at the SLP website it states that the mount only fits up to 98's and not 2000. I guess I will have to give them a call.

Thanks again for all the help..Michael

Did you give it a little more BFH over the driver side of the y-pipe? I've helped out on about 20 FLP installs and we really have to modify the driver side floorpan bracing.

I had the headers put on by FLP awhile back, so I have no idea as to how they did the install. Everything fit fine w/the cats in place, but the angle of the ORP is killing it. What did you do to modify the floor pan? Excuse the ignorance but what does BFH stand for I will be bringing the car over to HACKERJOE's probably next Saturday, to see what we can do with the floor pan. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again...Michael

I used some self tapping screws and a peice of power steering hose. Screwed it to the floorboard right where the y-pipe was banging (mine was banging on the driver's side, at the bend right after the cats/orps.

FLP also told me to try a polyurethane tranny mount. I have read on this board that the mount does help on some cars, but it made it much worse on mine, so I put the stock one back on.

The banging was actually fixed by 1) a large hammer and 2) prying the drivers side y pipe down a bit, which hurts ground clearance a bit.

You could also try wrapping that part of the Y-pipe in thermal wrap.I am trying this before I beat on my Hawk.

No more bangging...Finally resolved the problem this weekend, and let me tell you I am so damn happy now. The banging was driving me nuts. Ok here is what I did to resolve the problem. I took some left over fuel hose that I had, and squezzed three pieces in where I beleived the pipe was hitting, then used self tapping screws and screwed them in. Took the car for a spin and what do you know, No more banging

Fuel hose all the way. Thanks again for everyone helping out, really do appreciate it. Michael

Yes,that is what I did, works great, but a side affect I found is it stresses the pipe and causes leaks where it bolts to the headers after time.
I'm going to have an exhaust shop make me a Y-pipe with oval tubing(like stock) to replace this pipe. Then keep the old one with cats for inspection time.
