Default removing air pump.

would removing air pump cause any setbacks? such as any codes. what would change if an air pump was removed? Any daily drivers that have removed it? if so what are the differences as if you hadn't removed it? thanks <img border="0" alt="[Chevrolet]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" />

you will get a code eventually, but it goes away and comes back every once in awhile. there is no difference in daily driving. if you remove the egr though then yah you will have a permanent code. removing the air stuff just makes ur engine look nicer and is a weight reduction mod.

The only two advantages to removing the air pump are weight and more room under the hood. I pulled mine on Saturday.. have really notice any differences.

So if I get let's say ls1 edit I can delete the air option so it doesn't throw a code? that is what I had done when the egr was removed.

If you have Ed Wright tuning it's probably already disabled. Mine was. You will need some block off plates for your headers.

does removing this AIR stuff hurt your emissions?
i removed the EGR (because i installed Z06 instake), but still passed emissions.
i want to remove AIR as well, but don't want to if it will make me fail emissions.
thanx.

oh yeah...do you have to remove the air pump as well? do you need a new belt with the pump removed. i'm guessing yes and yes to my last two questions...

Scott
removing the AIR pump should not affect emissions but it will throw a code, so you'll have to have Julio delete it with LS1 Edit. There is no belt to remove since it is an electric pump. You'll also need 2 blockoff plates for the headers since you will also be removing the check valves.

no you do not HAVE to remove the pump but i did. the pump is located on the driver side of the car in front of the tire. there is a piece of plastic held on by a few bolts under the car. you can unbolt it from there. you do not need a new belt for you car, its electronic. there would be no reason not to remove it. it will still make the pump sound though if you don't. that's another good thing, you don't have to hear that noise when you start it up anymore. hope that helps. btw there are like 4 bolts holding the pump on and one electric connector.

I pulled the pump and hoses mainly to make it easier to change plugs. Dropping the weight helps a little too. When I removed the AIR system, I didn't get a code for a few days. It comes and goes every now and then. When I pulled the egr off recently, within 2 seconds of startup I got the egr code, and it is ALWAYS there now.

So, when the AIR pump being removed does set a DTC code, is it one that would affect performance?
Same question for the EGR ??

The air pump code didn't affect my 99 SS. It actually had one go bad. It will throw a code if you remove it. I believe the EGR is the same.. but I don't have any experience with it.
