For what year LS1? I'm not sure if they are different year to year. I did it on my 98, it really is very easy. You will also need the AIR block off plates for the headers.

I first started by removing the tubes and check valves that come off of the headers, and then installed the block off plates. Just follow the big tubes around the engine bay, and remove all of them.

I then jacked up the car, and opened up the panel in front of the driver side front tire. I think there are 2 10mm screws holding the panel closed. Once the panel is open, you can see the AIR pump and some wires. Remove the 4 screws holding the pump and bracket to the engine bay. The pump should slide right out. I think there were also 1 or 2 electrical connectors in there, but I do not remember if I unplugged them before or after I removed the 4 bolts.

This really is an extremely simple mod, just look for the air tubes and remove everything that they connect to.

Yes I have an SES light from this, but I always have SES lights for other reasons. I have a scanmaster so it doesn't bother me.

Removing AIR is not a performance thing, it's about removing weight and making it easier to change plugs.

I think it's just his wording. The pump is in the same place on all the cars. Just the new ones breath threw a "snorkel"

besides weight, it removes clutter from the engine compartment. Might as well remove the EGR at the same time, all you need is block off plates for that also, and then you can clear both codes with Auto-Tap.

You wouldn't pass emissions anymore now would you if you do that right?

you certainly wouldn't pass a visual inspection.. but witht the right tuning.. you could pass a sniffer test.

What does the AIR system do? Does it pump air into the intake or exhaust

Air Injection Reactor (AIR) pump blows cold air into the exhaust manifold to reduce carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions.

Wow. Thanks for all the info. I am going to keep my AIR system on...it doesnt sound like much advantage to take it off other than weight and liability when its time to get inspection. I have a 2002 so I have no EGR (yea!).

If im interested in shaving off 10 pounds off my car, ill go on a diet instead and keep my AIR system.

Thanks everybody for all the info.

Yank it out block it off, and LS1 edit it.
