Is it safe it safe that safe to remove the entire thing? I mean what exact function does the EGR serve?

It helps make the people down at the EPA happy. It also helps put dirty filthy unfiltered exhaust gases all over your throttle body, intake manifold, valves, entire intake tract and everything else downstream. Other than that you can eat off of it. If the EGR is such a great idea why do you think they only put it on one bank of your engine instead of both banks? The EGR is only there to keep Uncle Sam at bay.

It's simple to do as well. You need a 1 3/8" expandable rubber plug to plug off the hole in your intake manifold and a block off plate for the EGR to header connection. Unbolt and unplug and your done. Maybe a 10 minute job tops.
