Default SLP Timing Tricker & 100 octane fuel

Well I just had to go and try it myself. I got one of SLP's Air Temp Modules (from LS1 Motorsports)and tried it last night. My 2002 Z28 is bone stock with 2000 miles. My thinking was that the reason others are not seeing any gains from this way overpriced resistor is because the extra timing is being negated by the knock sensor. I thought I would be smart and run some 100 octane VP unleaded to eliminate any knock retard. My runs were as follows:

13.77 @ 101 w/100 VP
13.88 @ 100 w/100 VP + SLP timing tricker

My best time (13.77) was 2 tenths slower than I ran a couple of weeks ago using just 94 Sunoco. It was 15 deg cooler then but I don't think 15 deg is 2 tenths, therefore I believe the 100 VP slowed me down some. And the timing tricker definitely slowed me down. In conclusion I can say that the Air Temp Module is a waste of money and SLP is scamming people with their claims of 5 hp.

Thanks for the heads up bro. I`m on "mod restriction" by the wife right now so all the high buck mods are out (for a little while ). So I was going to pick one of those up for the hell of it but I guess I won`t now. As for the 100 oct.reducing E.T.`s, I`ve heard that in cool temps, on a engine with a lower compression ratios,(I mean let`s face it, 10 to 1 isn`t that high) the higer octane fuels actually become TOO hard to burn/ignite. Thereby taking away the benefit of the race fuel. Just a thought. Oh, and by the way, were almost neibors.

Anyone else have track times or dyno numbers for the Air Temp Module (Timing Tricker)? I hope that if we can get enough responses, maybe SLP will quit selling them. I would like my money back but I am not sure it is worth pursuing with LS1 Motorsports. If anyone has seen good results, please respond also.

I run out at Milan. Maybe I'll see you guys out there.

Well, when we went to Grand Bend Canada last fall we ran a resistor with 104 unleaded mixed in with 93. It was an 00 TA A4. The car really didnt do anything impressive. It was a muggy day, but still only ran 13.50's-.60's on average. On a cooler day without the resistor the same car goes 13.30's.

Its a waste of time really. Unless you are trying to advance the timing for other reasons.

Hey all you Motor city guys you should check out Motown Muscle. We have a ton of fbody members all local to our area. And we usually go as a group to tracks like Milan, Ubly, Mid-Michigan, Norwalk and even Canada, Grand Bend and St. Thomas. Out internet site pretty much explains everything. Be sure to have a look at our calendar of events and message board. Check us out!! www.motownmuscle.com

Hey motownblue, were you at milan wedensday? A couple of us MotownMuscle members were there for TNT. We had a few TA's there and a yellow cobra vert. What kind of car do you have?

Red Quasar is right, the guys at Motown Muscle really have a neat thing going. Everyone I have met from the club is really cool. LOTS of dudes with fast 4th gen F-bodies. I`m joining as soon as I can make one of the events! Oh and Rok, I haven`t run anywhere yet(damn MI weather)but we should set up a test and tune trip to Milan one day with the rest of the boys in the area.

Yes, I was at Milan Wednesday. I ran against a yellow Cobra. He beat me. Of course I was running off my normal pace due to the above mods. I'll definitely be checking into Motown Muscle. I am new to the area and need to get to know some of you guys.

Our next event is The King of the Hill Shootout at the Mid Michigan Motorplex, in Stanton. It is roughly a 2 hour drive from the metro Detroit area. But we usually caravan with 30 or so cars so its always a fun ride up there. http://www.motownmuscle.com/events/koth.htm

You guys MAY be right, but with the right 'tuning' the ticker can be very useful. I have ran the ticker for the last year - not any more with the NOS. Try the ticker, VP-104, and the MAFT. Lean it out - I mean lean. Watch the extra power. Racing gas can over power a stock engine. But if you lean out the car (using MAFT), add a bit of timing (ticker), and than racing gas. It works great in hotter weather. By it self the ticker may not be worth it.

15 degrees is a lot. From 60 to 75 is like an extra 500-700 ft DA.

David
