Default Strange noise please read....

On cold start up I have this loud ticking noise coming from my engine. The strange thing is, it just STARTED at 5,000 miles. After about 5-10 minutes of driving, it goes away. Im thinking piston slap, but WHY would it start now. Is this normal.

Thanks,
Mark

P.S. FWIW, this noise never was never there until after I had my ASP crank pulley installed a couple weeks ago. I don't see how this could cause the problem though.

I took my car to Chevy and here is the verdict: Road tested vehicle and can hear sound customer is reporting. Called GM technical assistance and they said sounds like the normal characteric from roller lifter guide bars. No codes in PCM. No change when balance test performed. Noise diminishes when warm. No other problems heard.

I talked to the SERVICE MANAGER and he said if by chance the noise gets worse, bring the car back and they will be happy to investigate it. At this time they found nothing abnormal.

Does this sound LEGIT??

my car has always piston slapped till 210'

it runs like a bat out of hell and no problems to report, so i can only assume its perfectly fine.

I would agree with gm that if it gets any worse then go back, cause if its plain piston slap, it shouldnt

Sounds like good 'ole piston slap to me. Mine started it around 5,000 miles. At 35,000 miles it got much worse. It sounds like a gosh damned diesel until it's up to temp.

Mine has had the piston slap since the day I picked it up with 152 miles on it. It's there all the time- whether the engine's cold or hot. Doesn't seem to have gotten any worse, but it is very annoying to me. Like previously mentioned, it sounds like a damn diesel. I would not call the piston slap noise a "tick" noise, though. It's a deeper rattle type noise. Maybe the "tick" noise is indeed coming from the valve train.

Your right, the service manger and technician test drove my car and said it was a noise coming from the valve train(roller lifter guide bars), more so then piston slap. They ran some tests and could not find anything
wrong. Just have to deal with these noisy LS1's.
