Default Dyno numbers: longtubes + true duals (with video now!)

On my last dyno:

325 ft/lb 306HP
LS6 Intake
LS7 Clutch
SLP Lid

MSD Wires NGK TR55 but we won't count that for go fast mods.

QTP Longtube headers HVMC Ceramic coated
Magnaflow carsound cats 3 inch
2.5 inch true duals with x-pipe
some stainless steel 3 inch mufflers to quiet it down

Untuned:
354 ft/lb 344HP
AFR was in the high 12's...

Tuned:
359 ft/lb 349HP

Things people should know about the 98 cars.

Stock tune is aggressive. Fairly rich from the factory, will take headers, intake and not skip a beat. All numbers are SAE corrected. We played around with the timing, enrichment for a few hours and couldn't squeeze anymore out of it. Looks like in 98, GM was counting on you to play with these cars. My 98 stock tune makes the 98 vette tune look tame.

Also, QTP's claims of HP gain... well.. the numbers untuned speak for themselves...

awesome numbers. over 50 horsepower, tuned. there's no debating that QTP's are one of the best, if not THE best performing headers out there. i can't wait to get mine on

his original number was 306hp, tuned number was 349hp....thats 43hp gain not over 50? nice numbers by the way

digital camera's just don't show the bass that the exhaust note has now... it's pretty silent at idle, but when ripped into I thought I'd go deaf...

Yea, your backwards numbers messed me up! 43whp is great, I getting ready to say my Jethots made the same numbers, but not now! Mine put down 312hp/322tq, looking forward to seeing what my QTPs/Pacesetter ORY and new TR55's add up to.

crap... I didn't get the sheet printed with the 359/349... oh well

here's what I did get printed, you can see it varies a bit, but it's close enough.

it was hot in the dyno room, we kept trying to strike a balance between the sun glaring in (making it hard to see the dyno screen when running) and keeping the door open enough to let air in/out.

Here's the latest dyno sheet more or less:


Back in 05 when I got this car, bone stock 98 LS1 that drank oil...

I didn't even crack 300hp... 315ft/lb 298hp... with a flat torque curve.

but what was the exhaust before the true duals?? stock?

43hp with LTs, true duals, tune is a great gain...but it doesn't seem astronomical.

hell the tune is easily a 1/3 of that.

nice numbers any way you look at it though.

the jump from 306->349 is from completely stock exhaust to qtp longtubes with 2.5 inch true duals + cats + x-pipe + mufflers all over the axle...

That is one hell of a gain despite the cat and muffler restrictions.

Can't wait to cam this beast...

impressive, if you went w/o cats you woulda gained even a few more hp and saved some $ plus had that nice rich exhaust smell while idling lol

it's my work car. i gotta get true duals fabbed up so the car will be at a shop for a couple of days. i simply don't have the time to sacrifice right now as i have no alternate vehicle to drive to work plus i'm trying to find a good deal on plugs, wires, a d-port pipe and single chambers. i gotta stop at my buddy's brother's exhaust shop and talk a plan over with him, too. i REALLY need a day off. this six day work week bullshit is killing me.

wow... you got your headers ordered and delivered to you before I got mine...

I did the headers in a day, I had an exhaust shop do my true duals in 5 hours in the morning...

it's seriously not as time consuming as you think.

my 98 was lean from the factory...i had to get a tune...everything i done leaned it out even more

he gained 5hp by the tune thats alot less than a 1/3

that was why he was saying his stock tune was agressive...the tuner couldn't squesse anymore out of it....
my factory tune was shitty...hell a lid and ported t/b caused detonation...
