Default Removing Air Conditioning.

I'm sorry I'm not quite sure where to post this so feel free to move it. But I'm thinking of doing the !Air mod just because I never really drive the car anyways anymore and if I do it's only on nice days when the windows can be down and the T-Tops off. That being asked, what are the advantages of removing the air conditioning? I'm wanting to mainly to clean up the engine bay and to do a little weight reduction.

Also, is there a good write up anywhere on doing this? I'm not totally sure on the procedure.

I wouldnt expect much in the HP dept, mostly weight. I mean if it works dont mess with it, if its broke, then thats a different story. I had a Black Hardtop car with cloth and omg I hated not having A/C with a passion

well, you will definately shave close to 60 pounds if you totally remove it, I mean blower and all. some of the benefits are huge added room inside engine bay, reduced wieght of course, and better air flow to rad and air box. Other than that no a whole lot, as far as a right up, it is simple, remove compressor belt, remove compressor 5 15mm bolts and another 2 for the bracket, 2 13mm i think where the line goes into the heater motor, the charcoal can is a think a 10mm to get out bracket should be 12mm, pull your airbox off, pull rad shrould two 10mm's and yank out condesensor, that is about it, as far as the motor for the blower I never got that far in to it there was no need for me. good luck, oh, the black line off charcoal can relieves coolant use a rag, screw driver and be out side, it will blow off all line pressure and then you can start cracking lines open.

when you say !Air! mod .. that isnt the A/C just to make sure everyone is on the same page. If you remove the A/C you wont see any HP gains unless you gauge when you have the A/C on vs. not having the A/C in the car(same as having it off). If the car isnt a full drag car -- just leave it in .. It's not worth all that work and I have T-Tops and I still run my A/C sometimes.

Good luck

Yes. I think it only takes 12hp to run the A/C too.

I really don't care about the power gains. I'm looking more for weight reduction and cleaning up the engine bay. I can't remember the last time I used the AC in the car...

removing the a/c and spare tire and jack is the easiest tenth you will gain...let alone how much it cleans up the bay....a/c is nice on long trafficy trips, but i have other vehicles for that
