Default 2.5" duals vs. 3" duals

im basing this question on how these two different in sound. Is there much difference in sound with 2.5" true duals from headers all the way over the axle-----compared to 3" duals from headers to 2.5" over axles?

**Both have hi-flow cats
**Both have H-pipe
**Both crush bends

I would doubt they'd differ much in sound, but that is pure conjecture on my part, as I'm sure most posts will be on this subject due to people not having had both. Not sure you'll get a great answer on this one...

i can't see why they would be significantly different.

if you're just gonna neck it down to 2.5 anyway...why not start with 2.5 and save yourself the ground clearance up front.

I do believe a 2.5" exhaust is good for up to 500hp. I plan to do LT's and 2.5". Low end torque will be better also. I had 2.5" on my T-Bird and talk about no bottom end.

im pretty sure 2.5" from LT's all the way over the axle is what im doing. Stick a couple of medium powerpacks before axle and run pipe over axle.

Yeh man, just go with the 2.5. Youll have better clearance and your power potential will be a few ponies after 500. I wouldnt do 3" unless you really wanna get all you can out of it which would be about 800. Go with the 2.5

there is no cut and dry answer....no definative hp number.

its not like someone has calculated that at 498.438hp you'll reach the max flow potential of 2.5" pipes.

well yeah there is no cut and dry answer if at the wheels or not but
actually there is a calulation for this. And the max efficiency of 2.5" duels are 513hp

the 3" should be alittle deeper imo.i'd say for a stock cube n/a 346 dual 2.5" and for a stroker motor that moves more air at a lower rpm or a nitrous setup 3" would be better.

I've had both, the 3" sounds noticeably deeper than the 2.5" but it's not a night & day difference. If I read your post correctly, you're necking back down to 2.5" after the axle anyway, so the sound difference will be negligible.
