Default Any reason NOT to run Autolite spark plugs?

I've always had good luck with Autolites, but I see darn near everyone says to use NGK TR55's. So far, I'm not having much luck finding them though. Aside from "because everyone else uses them", is there a true gain to be had in using the NGK over an Autolite spark plug? Not concerned about a money difference, but I would like to be able to go to the parts store that's a half mile away and get plugs if the need arises after this plug change.

I'm close to doing my longtube header install and it will surely be the best time to do a plug swap, I'm assuming.

Spark Plug are a subjective subject.. many time it is mind over matter that it is a better plug.

You can either go wtih everyone else and if that work and for many it will..

Else you can just what you have alway used for year and if that work.. keep using them.

or you can keep trying other ones until you find something that you think give optimum performance.

Right not I am using the stock AC's and they seem to be good and no problem. for my other SBC.. i use Champions and have always had good luck with them.

so.. make up your on decision based on real fact and what works for you.

Welp, I had TR55 IX's and TR55 Coppers. kick ***. Go w/ coppers and save the $.

You can go with 'what you've always used,' or go with what many people have successfully run and used in hundreds of different performance applications..

Yes, I have used Autolites. If I remember correctly we ran 1 cooler than recommended w/ the head/cam & probably could have used the standard heat range plug. Switched to NGK's because they were readily available, had previous success w/ them in other cars, & so many here had good experiences w/ them. Had no issues w/ the Autolites.

Thumbs up

Alright guys...NGK TR55's it is....The car had Denso's in it, so I guess they have been changed sometime before I bought it.

I know one thing...I installed my JetHots this afternoon/evening and these LS1's in Fbodies don't give you no kind of room to work with...lol. However, The beer does taste very good this evening though...

Ya, I Was Just Gonna Ask The Same Thing.... From What I Saw On The WS6Store Is That The "TR6's" Are Ment For "Nitrous And Supercharged" Engines

TR-55's are for stock/bolt-on car
TR-6 is for any kind of forced induction or nitrous setup because it runs cooler which is needed for the extra HP and heat.
The IX is an iridium plug which is suppose to be a better conductor but isnt for any specific setup.

If you know who Ed Wright is he only uses Autolite plugs & hates NGK. Says he has never had a Autolite fail but has a bucket full or NGK failures.

Denso's are stock plugs. But year i like the NGK's too. Could not find em' last time so i went with the Autolite Platinums. Work as good as the NGK's, the idle smoothed out a tone after install too. I think one of the stockers was fouled or something cuz it had a slight miss.

But you can't go wrong with proven performance and durability.

Mine also had densos in it. I guess GM was using them for some time because of supplier problem. From the looks of my denso's im thinking they were the wrong heat range because they were really burned up. I went with the copper NGK TR55's. Pulled a plug a week after install, perfect grey color.

i am also torn between the tr55's and the tr6's. i will be running around 10.7:1 compression with my TSP 5.3L heads. i also have a TR224 cam. the rest of the car is a full bolt on car. would one heat range colder benefit me?
