but i have a 160 in mine, and it still sits below 210

But I've also heard that people use the 160 stat and it still goes up to 210 so maybe they're just complete dummy gauges..

As for the gauge, I think GM put the idiot gauge in in 1999 to keep their customers from coming in and complaining that their cars *might* be running hot...it was more for the average buyer that doesn't know much about cars...or it could be to keep the old school guys from coming in that think a car should run at a cooler temp like their old muscle cars used to.
The signal is actually good though...if you scan the OBD-II port, you do get an accurate reading of the coolant temp...the guage just doesn't display it.
If the car is overheating, you will know it...the gauge works perfectly fine, GM just reduced the gauge's sensitivity in the normal coolant temp operating range.
