Default Cam or M6 swap?

I can't decide what I want to do a cam swap or swap my 4l60E to a T56. If I do the cam I will also do stuff like pulley, ls6 intake sway bars and shocks and springs all around so its kinda a tough decision? Any help always appriciated

If I were you, do the cam and parts. I think if you did the T56 swap and NOT all those engine and suspension upgrades, you'd kick yourself in the *** later on (even tho the 6-speed is hella fun!)

ok, do you get in your car and everytime you put it into drive, think to yourself, man, I sure as hell wish I could row my own gears, or do you think, man, this car would be badass with a good stall, and a cam. For me, a auto is NOT a option.

Have you considered just buying a M6 car, less work involved. But if you do the swap, I'd put in a ls7 clutch at the same time.

If you're even considering swapping to a t56 now, do it first before you blow a bunch of money upgrading the 4l60e to handle the cam. If you do the cam, you'll need a bigger stall, tranny cooler, shift kit would be nice etc.

what are you going to do with the car?

if a street racer then i say t56.

if drag car stay auto.

or if u just have to have t56 then i think you know your answer.

hope this helps

Totally offtopic but your car makes great bolt on power. Any track times?

I have had both M6 and several auto fbodies. 6 speeds are definatly more fun....but they are also more dangerous...they can break a stock rear almost at will if you get sticky tires and if you don;t get sticky tires it will take a long time to get a good launch at the strip and you still won;t get as good of a 60 as you would have with sticky tires. If you never go to the track or only do it once or twice a year get a t56 if you are more focused on faster more repeatable ET's then go for the cam and a stall

I would never do a tranny swap no matter how bad I wanted a M6. I may swap a 4 speed into an old resto but keep the auto. Get a cam and stall and have fun. It will still be fun to drive.

Only went to the track once and it was a s***** 1/8th mile track with no prep, ran 7.8-8.0 with 1.9 short times. Wasn't too impressed, seems alot quicker on the street. Already have a shiftkit but the part throttle 1-2 shift drives me nuts and with a stall I think it will only be worse not sure though never drove a stalled vehicle before, LT's ORY, LM1, Whisper lid, SSRA, Ported TB and MAF PB, LCA's, relo brackets, subframes.

Thanks, the tuner and I were surprized with the numbers. The closest I have to track numbers are from a g-tech on the street. 13.1 @ 110 with a 2.3 60ft with a friend in the passenger seat, and a trunk full of tools. I hope to go to the track soon. I'm confident it will run high 12's because I've own 13 second cars before and my SOTP tells me this ones a little faster

I would go with the 6 speed first, with a cam you will eventually torch the auto trans.

Why surprised with the numbers?

yeah those numbers seem pretty average honestly. I have a few similar parts.. 98 Z28, 78MM FAST intake P/P TB, SLP lid, Pacesetter mid-lengths, MAC ORY Y-pipe, Corsa cat-back, custom tune, speed inc cam 228/222 .588 lift 114.5 LSA and made 400HP. Guessing I had around 350 without the cam?

As for the Tranny, It all depends on what you want. every car I owned was a stick until I bought the camaro, and the auto was cool but I just had to have a T56. I haven't seen the track for 3 years and I love having more control over the car and RPM range so I did the swap first. Just kept buying parts for the cam here and there and finally installed in a few weeks ago. But it was definately worth the wait for the cam for me. I've been having a blast with the manual trans. All in all it's what you want to drive and if you can wait to add some extra HP. The T56 gave me better gas mileage and does free up some horsepower but it was hardly noticeable. And like Jimm98LS1 said if you do a cam with the A4 you really won't benefit unless you get a higher stall, shift kit, and DEFINATELY need a tune. though you'll have to tune the T56 swap also.

I'm gonna also agree with the rest that said if you constantly go to the track then stick to the A4 but if you just like to play around on the street and thoroughly enjoy ripping second (like me,LMAO) then go with the M6

The A4 is gonna require you keep your tuner on speed dial for major mods......but around here its not at all uncommon to see a full exhuast, stalled, tuned A4 go mid to low 12s (with a decent stall that is, 3200+) at the track.

i have done the a4-m6 swap in my car. it took me like 3 weeks and 4k later. im happy with it but now i have to get gears. which im just gonna go with the thunder racing package 4.10's baby! and soon im trading my full exhaust for my homies full exhaust and his is dumps muwahahahahah. sorry off topic but yeah man if your thinking of swapping its alot of bullshit and alot of money. ALOT of money. also time. i was carless for a while. then after that you have to go get it tuned cause i still have codes showing. just really think hard about swapping it-do you really love your car that much?

What the heck did you spend $4k on for a transmission swap? You must have bought brand new everything.
