You take a length of heater hose (the length depends on how much pipe you're looking to cover) and band clamp it over the portion of exhaust pipe that's smacking the underside of the car. It acts as a buffer 'til you can get the pipe correctly adjusted for clearance. Or you can simply leave it and put up with the mild vibration. I did the heater hose mod 'til I had an exhaust shop put a slight down turn in the part of the y-pipe that comes directly off the driver side collector.

Thanks. I'm not going with a Y, but may need to do that with the X setup I'm building.
My driver's side header was touching the floorboard.

I took it out and cut off ~2" of it. I took a 3" internal diameter connector and cut a V in it, pinched it together and welded it back (probably 20-25 degree bend). Then I took a 40 degree mandrel bend, cut it in the middle of the bend, rotated it 160 degrees and welded it back together. These combined take it away from the floorboard and over the little hump that our cars have. I smoothed the inside down really well, hopefully it won't hurt the flow too badly. Maybe not at all!

I'll try and get some tomorrow. Basically right where that heat shield is with the fuel lines run is where I placed them. I ran two pieces a few inches apart in the area that you can tell it would touch. Man does it ever make a difference. I've been driving it around for probably 25 city miles and haven't noticed a thing yet. VERY HAPPY!!

You guys need to notch the rib under the car where the y pipe it hitting. That will get you another 1/2" clearance for the pipe. You also need some poly mounts to keep the pipe in place when you are snatching on the car.

People poll the forum looking for the best tucking headers and then complain when the exhaust bangs the floor. You cant have both. Face it, our cars suck for space to run exhaust.

im not to sure about notching any ribs under the car,, these cars are tied togather by so many structural areas, those ribs being a contributing factor to the strength of the frame. just have the drivers side collector angled down a few degrees, brings the ory down away from the floor and still gives pleny of ground clearance without cutting up the car.
