I've spent too much time searching here, so it is time to ask. No offense, but I quit using cutouts 40 years ago. I want a
cat back system for my 2000 Z28 that does not wake the neighbors. Which is the _quietest_ cat back system that still performs better than stock?

SLP Dual/Dual is the quietest around. SLP 2OTL is also quiet. Mind you that changing in either one of these cat backs will probably not net you any horsepower on a mostly stock car. The only way to really gain horsepower (using a catback) on a stock car is to use an open exhaust, like the loudmouth.

My dyno with the D/D and LM were ~same. When i dumped my flowmaster cat back and went to the 2OTL on my LT1, I picked up 12 HP.
I think it's hard to beat an SLP cat-back
I'm going to put the D/D back on and sell the LM for 100 bones when I put my 224 in and FLP headers on.

SLP Dual/Dual is VERY quiet but doesn't sound mean at all, it does make real good power though over stock junk exhaust...I just ordered a Hooker catback...hopefully it sounds nice and mean..I am tired of quiet but don't want LM raspy and nasty loud...if Hooker doesn't cut it then I will sell it and buy a Borla

I agree the SLP dual dual is the quietest cat back. I added SLP longtube headers with Random Tech dual super high flow 3" CATs and it made no difference on my 2002 Firehawk!
On my 2000 Formula, I have Random Tech's cat back and it is one of the loudest and sweetest sounding of all of them! It's not obnoxious like the Loud Mouth. However, it does have the dreaded drowwwwn at 2150 rpm like all the rest LS1 cars I know. But my 2000 Formula gets more comps then anyone else I know. I wish it was one step quieter and I would add it to the 2002 Firehawk with the SLP LTs!

LOL.. I can't believe some of these answers! When compared to a loudmouth/gmmg.. anything is quiet I guess
.
SLP Dual/Dual is the quietest cat back I've ever heard on a LS1... and I have heard (in person) every catback listed on this page.

Thanks to all for the replies. There was nothing like this
the last time I was playing gearhead.
I will do more than just a cat back. Surely lid and filter,
MAF, throttle body to start. Then heads, cam, and headers. This thing should be faster than my 55 Chev street racer
from way back when.
I realize that "quiet" is subjective. Open pipes, like cutouts or the LM are not quiet. I used to run headers with
Corvair Turbo mufflers and dump ahead of the axle. I
consider that "quiet", but it had a definate rumble. But,
it was quite enough that you could hear the headers pinging
at idle and light throttle.

I have the Hooker catback. And for the price of $270 it really can't be beat IMO.
Flows really well and not all that loud. And thats with my car going through a 3" orp and hooker LT.
For any example of how well the hooker catback flows,I pulled 370 RWH with basic bolt-ons & cam only car in an A4.
And that's 11.4.1 on the wideband so I think I could get another 10 hp out of it with some tuning.
Good luck with the catback you choose

With Cats in, the Corsa is very mellow (till you put your foot into it). I just returned from the Hot Rod power tour and we compared the quality of the exhaust tone for several cat backs and hands down everyone said the Corsa was the best no rasp and a deep mellow tone till you had you foot in it. go to http://www.corsaperf.com/cfflash.html to hear it. Also they stand behind the product and it is one of the best looking systems out there.

Yes, with Cats in the Corsa is quite mellow in the under 3k RPM range, but wakes up after that. The price is up there ($640 [Pro tip]-$740 [Prem tip). However the B&B is quite similar in sound to the Corsa, but I don't think the look is nearly as good IMHO (I have the Corsa Prem tip and my friend has the B&B).
The stock system is going to flow about as good as any aftermarket system and is the quietest you'll get.
