Default Ported throttle body......worth it?

Hey guys, I was wondering about porting my stock '02 T/B while the motor is apart. Who has done it and what are the gains? Is it worth the money? Also who would you recomend for the port job? All opinions and experiences welcome. Thanks

Personally its a great mod and a good supporting mod as well. I have seen cam only guys pick up .18 and 2mph with just a tb swap. On a stock car your looking at about 8rwhp, more on a modded car. Throttle response is also drastically increased. Its also a mod that can be done by yourself as well and its one of those mods anyone with the correct tools and time can accomplish. If not comfortable doing it yourself there are alot of good porters out there as well. Search this forum for some good write ups as well. Tim

yes its worth it. 5 or more hp for $75 or less is a good bang for the buck. I felt gains up top and better throttle response when i installed mine.
btw, new era performance ported my tb and did a good job

Another vote for Smokin87TA. Best bang for the cheap buck there is. Quite a few pick up 10rwhp.

Every little bit helps, and it's cheap. I didn't want to leave that little extra power out on the table.

i think it is worth it..after i put mine on it pulled harder on the top end and the throttle response was a major improvement. To me the throttle response alone made it worth it.

yea, throttle response is very noticeable. It just feels like it wants to, for lack of a better phrase, go more by itself. Like it's begging you to go WOT.

it is definately worth it. youll see gains on a stock car and even more on a H/C etc car. you can also have the bump stop mod done, itll help a little bit as well.

Is there much of a way to mess this mod up doing it yourself, aside from clearincing the bump stop too much or porting too far where the throttle blade seals up?

I have a ported TB but I just dont understand how porting in going to make any more power at all.. You still send all the air through the same size opening in intake manifold so where does the gain come in??

Not true, The blade is 75mm no matter what, stock tb's have a ridge in front of the blade that is about 71mm. So by porting it you are gaining about 4mm diameter, Its a proven mod and many people have proven good gains. Basically IT WORKS.
