How To Get A Mirror Shine on Thottle Body???
On the top of the body (where everyone puts those LS1/LS6 ID stickers) was the most work. On mine as well as other bodies I've seen, there seems to be some casting flaws. I carefully ground down that area with my Dremmel and barrel sanding attachment. To really smooth that area out to get a very flat surface I did a lot of hand sanding with a tiny sanding block and various grit papers ending with aluminum oxide 400.
After trying all kinds of polish (like Semichrome) and rouge using those little cotton polishing wheels and failing to have the result I wanted, I ended up putting the finishing touches on the throttle body with one of those Dremmel mini wire wheels. I cleaned off the polishing creme residue with generous amounts of CRC carb cleaner before restaring with the wire wheel. I found the brass cup shaped wheel to work the best although you will probably need both (actually 2 of each). I used the steel cup shaped wheel first. But I found it would dig into the aluminum very easy and it's a pain to get the marks back out. The brass wheel is softer and works well especially well on the flatter areas. The steel wheel works well in all those nooks a crannies on the passenger side.
A must is keeping the Dremmel at a medium speed. Any faster than that and the brass wires will just fly off the wheel and you will have nothing left to work with. Ask me how I know!
Also remove the throttle position sensor and throttle actuator motor first before you start.
This whole process was a trial and error thing for me as I have never done this before. With all my farting around trying different methods of polishing this whole job took me 6 hours. If I did it again I'm sure I could do a nice job in half the time.
Sorry I don't have a pic to show you all. Some day I'll take one.
Hope that helps.
