it matters if they were installed correctly or not, the tolerances have to be just right for them not to whine,

and ive heard that some brands, like richmond, make more noise than others, not sure if thats true or not though

My 4.10's whine a bit, nothing too bad though. As was stated, some brands tend whine more than others. Did you put in the additive when the oil was changed out? That should help a little with the whine.

It couldn't hurt to change it and put in a bottle of additive. You can get the additive at any auto parts store, I got mine at Kragen along with the gear oil. I can't remember exactly which brand I got, it was in a blue bottle.

No problem bro, that's what this site is for. Before you go out and buy the oil, do a search here to see which one you would like. I went with Valvoline 80W90 with a bottle of additive.

My Motive 3.73's whine some. They have about 300 miles so far on them. They whine more when I let off the gas. They were setup professionally, but I was told it's almost impossible to set them up perfect. For what I paid, I am happy. All I did was buy the ring and pinion, 2 bottles of Mobil 1 75w90 oil, and posi additive.

When I had Motive 4.10's in my other TA 2 years ago, they whined very bad. I bought the rear that way, turned out they were just setup way too tight.

Almost ANY aftermarket gear makes a whine, even expert installers have a hard time getting them 100% and then throw in the mix of the way they are driven.

My sponsored installed Moser 12 bolt 4.11's were quieter then Moser installed gears (3.42's) on decel, no noise and a lil when accelerating, after hitting the track 3 or so times they have gotten a lil louder, its to be expected.

It's more common than it is normal, if that makes sense. I have heard Motives whine extremely loud and be fine.

I have a moser 12 bolt with 4:10s and they whine quite a bit...I asked the same thing and I was told that they will whine. It's actually pretty annoying because it's louder than my Corsa exhaust and I dont have cats.

If its a production Moser it will whine, only a exp tech can set up a rear and in the process of making the rear, they are not concerned with your driveability.

Also to note I have driven in a car with Richmonds, OMG they are the nosiest gears out there and that was just in a 10 bolt.
