Default Help Descreening MAF?!?!

I have a SLP 85 MAF along with the mods in my sig. I want to descreen it. I went out to the garage today to do it, and I can't get it off. I tried the push it off from the back, but it wouldn't budge, so I grabbed a junk MAF of my shelf, and tried, but I can't get it off either, without braking it! Any help, tips, advice, or is there something I'm doing wrong?

I just dug mine out, Im not using it so I didnt care what it looked like. But there should be a ring on the inside, if you compress it, it will pop out and the screen will come with it.

Don't do it... Its there for a reason.... That screen straightens out the air path going in..

I did it and am enjoying not having it on....there is a ring infront or it that you compress and it pops out. Then push the screen out with a screwdriver

LMAO!!! ...and the stock accordion bellows does what:

Even an aftermarket bellows will have a bend to it, so this whole idea about the MAF screen keeping the air straight is crap.

BTW- The C5 & C6 ZO6's don't have MAF screens, and neither do the 85mm aftermarket ones. I guess we should tell those guys ASAP they need a MAF screen pronto.

Peace,
Craig.

I've never seen someone be able to take it out and it be in the condition to replace it. If your gonna remove it, your gonna trash it. Take the handle of a small screw driver and knock it out. Task accomplished.

Wow... I thought you would be smarter than that... LMAO!!!!
The bellow is behind the Maf.. the meters are in the Maf where it gets read. The screen straightens it out.. The other Maf's you mention are calibrated without the screen.. Do you think GM put them in for fun ? Look at that picture you posted see where the bellow is ? Geezzz... Besides this was a good free mod for LT1's not LS1's
To the Original poster... Ask your tuner or a shop around you.. I had lots of issues when it came time to tune my car...

There's no perfect way to do it. I think i used a razor blade and cut around the screen, then the outer rim kind of just popped out real easy after that. I de-screened mine b/c I'm running a dry shot. Car acts exactly the same with the de-screened MAF as it did when it was screened. Just be careful around those wires in there.

So if the screen is important why did gm start leaving it off of the Z06 corvettes starting in 02? Also your car is going to pull air in to the motor in a straight line anyway, it would be necessary if it were going through a bend such as in the GTO air induction system where it comes in from the side of the car then makes a 90degree turn to the motor. Personally, i removed mine. Ill also add that i didnt really feel any difference before or after, also i took my maf apart to remove it, made it much easier to do, but as everyone above has said, once you take it out its trash and will never work again.

this subject has been beat to death,,,if you do it,,you have to dig it out,, you will not be putting it back in. Just leave it be, its not hurting anything, no one can show you dynos of dramatic improvments they have acheived,,,its just not worth doing to your $200 SLP maf, or your expensive stocker either.

beat to death indeed. but doesnt matter if u paid 10 bucks or a 1000 bucks if u want it out pop it out and never reuse it if u want to reuse it dont pop it out cause it aint gonna happen. it adds 2 hp to the wheels i dynoed it, i know. if 2 free hp is sounds good to you do it. as for this keep it so if ur lid blows off crap, um make sure u latch ur lid, not going going to come off! also the straightening the air theory is also a bust, only meant if the intake track isnt straight and then its still iffy with the sophisticated cold air kits the have today
