Default What will an electric water pump really free up power wise?

Does anyone have any figures or actual dyno proof that the electric waterpump will yeild more RWHP by freeing up potential drag on the engine?

i think the main advantage is being able to turn it on and off at will

Agreed. I've heard its good for a few ponies and with you running the D1SC I'd def look into it more. Could be other benefits too.

its the smallest bang for the buck you will ever buy. plus you do not get a warning before it fails, they just go.

That is not an advantage, because you would NEVER turn it off while the car is running. Unless you meant that you could turn it on/off when the engine isn't running...that would be an advantage, but it would drain your battery with the quickness.

Yeah is it really worth all that money? The only way I could see putting one in is if the stock water pump is not working anymore.

I am more interested in how many ponies it actually frees up (if any).

Not really looking for reasons why or why not to get one.

theoretically you'd probably see more power on a h/c setup, due to several things.

i would think since a h/c motor revs faster, less rotational drag would be compounded.

and second you're spinning a h/c motor higher than the factory 6200rpm...usually...which would further benefit from reduced paracitic loses.

considering the LT1s use to see 10-15rwhp with the electric pumps...and those were cam driven...i don't see why you wouldn't see similar on an LSx motor

EWP from what I have been told will not last as long as a mechanical pump. Also they flow a constant rate of water all the time as to a mechanical increases with rpm. If you are doing drag racing where the engine works hard for short bursts its not a problem. If you are doing road racing it could lead to over heating issues. These are things I have been told. I personally have no experiance with them.

What issue was this? I remember one where they gained like 4 rwhp, but not one with 20. Maybe I didn't get that issue...

Doesn't it flow coolant better anyways?

"If you are doing road racing it could lead to over heating issues. These are things I have been told."

if i remember correctly, the mez EWP flows more coolant at a constant rate than a stock mechanical pump flows at something like 5000 or 6000rpms.

which means it would be better for road racing than mechanical.

don't recall where i saw the specs for coolant flow on the stock unit.

Angela ( 350 hrss on cz28) put one in her car about 2yrs ago. maybe shoot her an email and see how she likes it.

Let me know if you remember because I only remember that they put it on their blue TA (the one they ended up supercharging) and it gained 4 I believe. I think they did a MAF with it.
