all the guys with banging y's, you need to order up some prothane engine mounts to get rid of that banging y!!! it will be a pita to install but which is worse, listening to the y pipe bang or not?

Poly mounts are 50 bucks and they're cake to install with the headers/manifolds out of the way. I did them when I put in my long tubes because I didn't want to screw around with a banging exhaust. Had my TSP ORY, true duals, and now a Pacesetter Y all tucked within 1/2" of the floorboard and it's never made a sound. I don't understand why people will do headers and then take their chances of having a Y pipe cranking their floorboard by not doing motor mounts.

My QTP Y after Poly mounts still hit the end of the trans crossmember so I changed my mounting arraingment to LT1 style and now the pipe is clear of the trans crossmember and never bangs. Heres a pik of it done...

LT1 style crossmember installed.

Everything back together.

What it looked like without the crossmember bolted up. Top bolt holes are the new ones bottom set are the LS1 holes.

yes it is the same..prothane is a company that makes poly(polyurethane) engine mounts...in most cases it will fix the banging probem caused by the crap for engine mounts in the fbody...the best time to install these motor mounts is when the headers are off, so most ppl will do a header/engine mount swap..the motor mount kit is only $60 and some change at ws6store.com

I've got Pasetter coated headers and their ORY. It used to bang only on acceleration. I bought some heat wrap and wrapped it around the part of the Y pipe that was bangin under the drivers side floor board. I then took a piece of heater hose and spliced it down the center and clamped it on top of the heat wrap and y pipe. Doesn't bang at all. Been that way for about 2 years now.

true, but that sounds like such a ghetto fix....it is going to be so much better to just get prothan mounts...especially when you start putting more torque to the ground, it is only going to help that much more

I have a tsp ory and had to take it off and egg shape it in one area and put a dent in another to keep it from hitting. My car is pretty low though so I couldn't just adjust it. I had their cat Y on it and had to take it off because it was banging on the floor and scraping the ground.

Like stated a bunch of times in this thread motor mounts are almost always going to fix the banging issues. Either way they're a great mod, they allow for smoother shifting for M6's and keep everything in place. I just installed my Spohn solids and I love them. I get a slight rattle from the y-pipe but that's only because it lifted that side up about a 1/4". Get some motor mounts, solids and Prothane's, and kill two birds with one stone. They're really not hard to install. I got worried after reading all these threads about them being a nightmare but it was really easy.

It is...but I would still get the motor mounts.
This "Ghetto Fix" that I gave you was really only a short term solution to hold you over until you can get poly motor mounts. I'm just a slacker and never got back around to installing some![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
It works fine, but just like most have said the motor mounts are probably the "Best" solution to the banging.
