ported TB vs. Ebay TB
looking at installing a ported throttle body, i just cant afford the downtime so i have two choices
1. pay someone 100$ with 45$ core to send me a ported 78mm stock one from any number of guys
2. go on ebay and buy an 80mm one that is designed from the ground up to flow good for 140$ shipped and sell my stock one somewhere for 50$
like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-02...spagenameZWDVW
or this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-...spagenameZWDVW
seems like the brand new, 80mm one that is designed from the ground up to flow better would make more HP especially later on when i get the ls6 intake/headers/Ypipe, but i see that everyone on here seems to have their own ported one?!?!
car is basically stock, with pulley, catback, lid, 3.73 gears and 150 wet shot nitrous kit on it.
which one should i get and why?

If you do any of them, Id go with the second one. Looks like a better quality piece. I have heard from people that some of their ported stockers flow better than any 80mm TB's out there. Personally I would go with an 80. Because 80 is still bigger than 78.

professional products offers a 85mm for $155. if you look at the first TB and scroll down you'll see it there.I would go with the 85mm.good luck with your choice.I personally went with a ported LS2 intake, with LS2 injectors and fuel rail with a 90mm TB.honestly it didn't cost that much at all.

we have had some bad luck with those cheap *** throttle bodies, throttle sticks, off idle stumble, not wanting to idle.I say unless you can afford to get a good throttle body, get the stock one ported.

ok, thanks guys, had to ask since i know so many people on here have their throttle body ported and went through the same decision, honestly the 80mm throttle body doesn't look any worse than the stock one, not sure how it could cause any problems but i found an old SLP CNC ported stock one, epoxied and all that for 100$ shipped with all the sensors, then i'll sell my stock one for 50$ so i'll only be out 50$, so i'm just going to get that one since the ported stock one has been proven and i dont want to mess around with it too much, i wish i could port it but i live in an apartment and dont have a garage or reallly any tools here so just looking to do this the easy way, i'm sure one of these days when i get a cam and heads i'll do the quality fast 90 but for now just something small before i get it tuned
dynoing it soon! i'll be sure to post up the dyno sheets!
