Breaking the oil pressure sending unit...

Breaking the oil pressure sending unit... Well I've searched and searched and I know damn well how easy and frequently the sensor breaks on an intake swap but my question is how. Me and my buddy were extremely careful doing and ls6 intake swap and it still broke! Does the brake booster hose just catch it or what?

I pulled my intake in and out like 4 times and didnt brake it yet haha as far as I know just have to take your time pull it out a little and unhook everything then pull it out I can unhook everything now with out having to move the intake forward now befor unhooking all the junk first.
I know it dosnet help you now but you just have to be careful some guys put a big socket over it to protect it.

I didn't look but is it possible to remove the brake booster hose from the rear of the intake before you take it off. That way you wouldn't have to drag it by or around the sending unit.
Just lift up on the intake before you pull it out and you will clear the oil pressure sending unit. Thats the best way.

Is it possible to break it putting it back in? It was fairly smooth coming in and out. But from what I've read those things are so flimsy you wouldn't feel it breaking even when you did it.

Lol...thats ridiculous! I swear ours never got touched but something happened...lol. I'm afraid of breaking the new one when we put it in and slide that intake back...
I'm positive I broke mine also, could someone post a pic of what it looks like? Also a part number. I will take a pic tomorrow and post it back up to make sure that it is what I think it is. Thanks!
I broke mine the first time i remove my stock intake , and it was the brake boost hoses ,It is so tight against the oil sender,that by the time you pull the intake back to disconnect it ,It brakes the sender.Now that what i seen on mine.
I break them every time. I don't even worry about it anymore. I even made a "special" tool to make replacing it easier. It's a 27mm deep well socket that I cut down, then shaved off two opposite sides.

Hose that connects to this nipple snags the sender.Easy way to remove is to rotate front of intake to drivers side fender as you pull out-it can be done without braking anything.

I kinda figured out why the unit breaks just from touching it a little with the hose. A lot of the plastic used under the hood turns out to be very brittle after being heat/cold cycled over the years. On my car it was never exposed to anything but summer driving before I got it so when I did the intake swap it was fine. Not even a year after that (and some really cold weather), I found myself doing a throttle body port and busted the plastic on the throttle cables with every little effort. I had to mock up a way to mount the cable with some success but not only that plastic, the CTS sensor also snapped off just by looking at it as well. I just touched it trying to get a socket on number 1.
In reflecting on my intake swap, I'm sure if I take off the intake now, I'll probably break it just looking at it.

Thanks for the pic, yup, broke that one good. How on earth do you put the intake back without breaking it? It seems like the big hose touches it no matter what. Any suggestions?
