Thats normal opperating temp. but its too hot for most people so they put a 160 stat in and tune the fans to come on at 180.

The thermostat will help you none because it's full
open already. It's the fans and radiator that set the
upper temperature, the thermostat only sets the
low end. It has no authority because nobody's "got
its back" (not enough cooling airflow w/ fans off).
So do not waste your time and money on the "160"
thermostat. Just get the fans programmed right.

The temp gauges on 1999-2002 Camaros and Firebirds are dummy gauges. If you are seeing 210 that is not the actual temp. Only 1998 had a real working gauge.

If it stays at 210 that is normal. On 1999-2002 it only moves if it is overheating.

So even if you put a 160 thermostat in, the gauge will still read 210 on a 1999-2002.

No he didn't, All he said was that they were dummy gauges and that they don't show the real temp. I was curious if they just showed a constant value when at operating temp or if they just showed X# of Degree's; lower or higher consistently.

They move by "notches" to points picked by the
PCM. There is no particular calibration and not any
continuous, linear indication of real temp. The ECT
(stock) for kicking on low speed fans is 226F (off
at 219F).

Yes sir.

To summarize it, on a 1999-2002 F-body the temp gauge will read 210 at operating temp unless the car is overheating.

Default 2000 C5 Fan Reprogram

Can a dealer reprogram the PCM to cut the fans on earlier. Or is this a mod of some kind done through aftermarket means. Thanks

Its my understanding the gauge (except on '98's) will read 210 degrees for the temperature range of 180-226 degrees, once the temperature goes beyond 226 the gauge will show the actual temperature.
Tis' why the gauge will jump up or down really quickly at times - if your car tends to overheat.
