425-450 Rwhp
Hey guys, I have a '98 LS1 in my '02 S10 Xtreme. I have a LS6 intake with the t/b bypass. I am planning to do a p/p t/b and u/d pulley. I was wondering what h/c setup to go with to get 425-450 RWHP without nitrous (that comes later this year with the forged internals)

a good head with a cam in the 232-236 range or a great head with a slightly smaller cam in the 228-232 range will get you there. if you have the funds a set of afr 205s or tfs 215s would be what i would recomend.have them milled some also to raise up the scr/dcr. the budget heads need a slightly bigger cam usually to reach the levels of the aftermarket castings .

in reality there is a pretty big difference between 425hp and 450hp...
along the lines of what Trap said....the way you spend the money will determine how tame the engine is.
bigger cam with cheaper heads will make the power...at the cost of driveability
milder cam with GOOD heads will make the power...with good driveability...at the cost of $$$$
a pretty tried and true combo would be a cam along the lines of the TSP Torquer 2, or Futral F14....with a set of 5.3L heads or LS6 heads speced out to get compression up to 11:1
and another thing to realize...is the rest of the drivetrain that you'll be making this power through. a h/c combo that makes 450rwhp on a manual T56 trans and 10bolt will be hurting to make 425rwhp through a high stalled A4 with a 12bolt.
so that's part of the equation you havn't really explained to us.

I would reccomend getting the G5X1 and some ls6 heads- raise the compression a bit and let her eat.
This will make good power under the curve, and perform well at the track. If you need faster get a bottle

Look at my sig, these are the parts it took to get 444rwhp and 423 rwtq, that and of corse a great builder and some great tuners.
Go with Futral Cam, and LS6 Intake or go bigger and get Fast 90 Intake, and dont forget a good set of stage 2 or better heads. Good set of LT Headers, and a set of True Duals.

I think this should help you out. They made 417/399 with these mods: SLP lid, stock MAF and TB, stock intake, stock pulley, stock heads, pacesetter LT's and ORY, Magnaflow cat-back, M6, SA 228 cam, Patriot Springs, 4.11's in a 01 z28.

Take a look at my Sig. I'm pushing 430 rwhp through an auto with a small 3200 stall and stock rear end. I purchased my heads, cam, and tq converter off this site for about $1400 and haven't had any problem with the car. It's possible to do just choose your package wisely.

I know someone mentioned drivetrain. I will be beefing up the 4l60e and get the stall to match the cam. as far as the rear end, i'm waiting until the stock 10 bolt blows so i can get a currie 9".
