Default 01Z28 cam only with our 228 cam

This run is from a 01z28 cam only car.We came up with this cam awhile ago and have used it with great results.we designed this cam to be a good daily driver and to make max hp and tq with stock heads and standard bolt ons. This is the first car that we have run this cam in and get real numbers-other cars had an a4 or 9" or kooks headers or something.

01 z28
slp lid
stock maf and tb
stock intake
stock pulley
stock heads
pacesetter lt's and ory
magnaflow cat back
m6
sa 228 cam
patriot springs
4.11's

a couple things to note,tq was at 358 at 3500 and didnt drop below 350 till 6000,hp hit 400 @ 5400 and didnt drop below 400 till 6750,i believe there was still more in it but it seems like the lifters are bleeding down-car has 120,000 miles on it

Wow, that's very very respectable numbers. When I'm searching for a cam, I'll keep it in mind. What are the other specs on the cam? LSA, lift?

Those are good numbers for a 228 cam! Anymore details on the cam?

our dynojet is generally 15-20 hp lower than others in town-not sure why, maybe because ours is an inertia dyno-just ask people who come in for dynos and been to others before-pissed off

cam is low 230's on the exhaust and under .600 lift,
we are putting a fast 90 with a nick williams tb today to see what that will do,also bigger injectors-stock ones were just about maxxed out-uncorrected numbers were 425hp and 411 tq

That is very good for those cam specs. Congrats.
Make sure you post up the results of the 90/90

nice numbers would like to see a 85mm maf and UD pulley on it too...

do you think your numbers are close to a mustang dyno then if you said 15-20 hp lower than other dynojets...also i know this has been cover but what is the ballpark difference between a4 locked to m6...

I cant say if its the same as a mustang dyno-no other shops around have one to compare to,customers have just complained that ours is lower than other shops around,as far as power from a4-m6,i cant say for sure, everycar car has different mods so i cant give a fair comparison-maybe 10 or so,but i cant say with a great amount of certanty.

Well here are the numbers with a fast 90 intake and a nick williams 90 tb,we also put in 42lb injectors, just as i expected it gained a little up top and lost a little down low,def not worth spending the 1100.00 on intake and tb

Awesome numbers! I'd be interested to see you guys put the LS6 back on with the 42lb injectors. What type of lobes are used?

I cannot speak for the cam being mentioned in this thread but I have a 228 588 112 cam and it's GREAT drive ability. for a daily driver, racing every now and then, and a lovely tq curve u cannot go wrong with a cam like mine...or even better, the cam in this thread.

great numbers VA Speed, seems like u guys struck gold.

we are putting the ls6 back on with bigger injectors,so ill be able to get those #s,we just put the fast on to see what it would do,lobes are pretty aggressive, but not real bad

Wow, very impressive numbers on the first graphs, even if your dyno is reading average. You don't see many cam-only cars in the 420 range without a much larger cam and other bolt-ons that this one didn't have.

On the other side of things, that SUCKS spending $1,100 and only gaining 10rwhp, and losing torque. Would that FAST 90 setup make a bigger difference if you were to put some decent aftermarket heads on it? I know that wasn't the goal with this car, but I am just curious.

Also, can you post the graphs and/or numbers from the other cars you used this cam on (the ones with the A4 and 9-inch, or any others)? Just curious to see a comparison. Wouldn't mind seeing how the car responded to some heads after seeing these nubmers, also. Keep us posted!

If the engine had ported heads the fast intake would have made a much bigger improvement.Although this cam would probably make some big power with ported or aftermarket heads,i got a couple of grinds that would work much better while maintaining the same driveability.I'll dig up some dynos for you in other cars using the same cam
