I'm sure it won't hurt anything, but why not just put it back. Otherwise it's gonna end up in the trash.

thanks... left it off for now - the pass. side headers are barely further from the mount than the drivers... It's a pain to get back on with headers - even though they were unhooked from motor, still in the way, was stuck on ypipe

Are you talking the heat sheild that hooks to the clamshell or the one that goes over the clutch line?

hmm.... mine's an a4... I'm talking about the clamshell heat shield. There isn't one on the pass. side and my headers are barely closer to the mount on the driver's side - I'll post on here if I have a meltdown

It goes bad from the previous owner totalling it out. From what i can gather as to how it was damaged it seems to me like he/she pulled out in front of someone and took a really hard hit to the drivers side fender area, which bent the frame 4 inches inboard. The kmember was damaged where the motor mount stand mounts to it. It had a depression i would say about a 1/4 inch deep around the upper forward hole of the stand which tapered off around the stand. Basically it made it to where if you were to get the front hole of the stand and the mount lined up the back would be off by 3/4 of a hole, and vise versa if you lined the back hole up. The way i figured it out was by going to the salvage and looking at some good kmembers. What also should have thrown a flag was the fact that we had to take a torch and a pry bar to get the pass side mount out the clamshell and the drivers side almost fell out of it. Plus the drivers side rubber mount was very deformed. I guess is was my cars last "little" suprise for me since i rebuilt it. How the block didnt get killed is a mystery to me.

Because the clutch hydraulic line is allegedly protected from heat by it.

Quick Reply: just put poly motor mounts on, can I leave the heat shield off with LT's?
