Default AIR Hose Removal

I decided to remove the AIR hose from the lid and give it its own filter right off the air pump. I want to keep the system for now and is why I did what I did. I plugged the lid and it is done. Anyone think that the AIR system will function the same at startup? I don't drive in the rain so I am not worried about the small filter getting wet.

I like you plug on the lid... but why did you remove the sensor before the maf?? Anyways removing it like that will probably still make your car throw a code. Not right away... but eventually. Essentially did the same thing to my car. Threw a code 3 months later lol.

I see no reason why it would throw a code as the PCM has no way of measuring air flow through the sysem. You could actually unplug the air pump with no code.

What did you use to plug the lid. It looks good.

^^ I was wondering what you used to plug the lid also.

When I removed my air system I got no codes.

The sensor you have plugged is the IAT sensor.. you need that So put it back.

But, the way you have your air setup looks good and shouldn't affect anything.

Also, for you guys wanting to plug the side of the lid... if you don't have a lid yet...buy a 98-99 lid...they don't have an air hose going to the lid like the later year models so there is no hole to plug.

Don't know why or how it throws the code but it does! For me and probably about a hundred other ppl on this site. Not a big deal though.

I didn't plug mine. I got a clear MTI lid with no hole.

All the aftermarket lids I've seen required you to relocate the AIR hose. I attached mine near the AIR pump with the filter as well. I'm sure it gets lots of air through the foglight hole. Of course, I eventually took it all off and had it tuned out

You can get plastic plugs like that at any Lowe's store.

I have a Delphi 85mm MAF on the car and I used a 3 to 5 wire connector. This eliminates the need for the IAT sensor in the neck of the lid since the MAF is doing this job. I threw a code shortly after the MAF went on but a part throttle tune took care of that.

I bought the plastic plugs for the lid at a Pontiac car show in Ohio last year. I taped them down from the outside and filled the inside with an epoxy. I filled in the vacant area of the plug and on to the surface of the lid to hold. It turned out really smooth and clean looking.

I was sure removing the AIR hose from the lid wouldn't "throw" any codes. My concern is would it affect the operation. My understanding is that the pump only runs for the first 5 minutes or so after the car is started to get the CAT's working quicker for emissions purposes. I know you can remove the AIR pump and still pass emissions. In this case you have to avoid the testing stations when the car is cold.

I think that FTP makes a their lid minus the holes for the IAT and AIR you just have to request it that way. Some time down the road I will get one to replace my patched up project.

You are correct on the operation. When you smog it just drive around for a half hr first. Might notice the noise a little more now. I know I do.

The plugs look good! And so does the little filter for the AIR.
