First off 02yellowls1... we have the same car! Is yours t-top or convertible? Anyways... I've got the Volant CAI which is a nice addition to my engine bay- I've gotten plenty of complements on the way it looks. The cones are aimed directly at the top snorkels and will obviously work best without the plates blocking the direct air flow from outside to under the hood. I did debaffle the hood but still have yet to purchase the JAAM kit- which eventually I will. I like the look and did dyno last year at 323/321tq with only a cheesy *** 2.25" true dual x-pipe, that I came to learn robbed me of power, and the Volant CAI. I must say that the cheesy exhaust is now gone and replaced by 3" true dual x-pipe. At any rate, I'm very happy with the Volant and do recommend it, along with debaffling the hood to further take advantage of the CAI dual cone design, and the JAAM kit to help direct the air more efficiently. Of course, if you are on a strict budget then stick to a lid.

I dont even know what to get. I am leaning on the simple and cheap yet prove SLP lid. The JAAM kit requires a use of a good aftermarket LID to work properly so theres like 300+ bucks just for an intake.

The volant intake seems to work really well considering its rite in the airpath of the WS6 top snorkels and im sure with the hood de-baffled it would work even better.

Drake02-Did you have to put screws in your rad support or anywhere else on the car in order to make do the install? Is there a noticeable sound difference with the volant when you get on it?

Nope no extra screws or support needed. It just reused the same stock screws and sits in the exact same spot. I did hear a significant sound difference whenever I did get on it, but now with headers I don't really hear it anymore.

I'm gonna have to agree with this statement.

...Look,.. I know the chances of water traveling all that way may seem possible yet still super unlikely to happen but it does happen on that VERY RARE occasion. I've known 2 cars that its happened to before. This is where having an SS, Ultra-Z, WS6 hood are super great to have if you want a "cool air intake" because we can avoid the radiator version that to be quite honest with you scares the living crap out of me.

Remember, the FTRA is the only ram air kit that includes a block off plate to disable to kit for use in bad weather. That completely blocks off the ductwork going down under the car and returns your car to breathing the same way as stock.

I really like the idea of the JAAM as well, seeing as it makes the WS6 hood functional but, they say that you should get an aftermarket lid as well due to the stock one having crappy flow. Well i dont know maybe to some thats not a bad idea but i dont wanna spend 200 on the jaam and then another 100+ on a lid (SLP being the cheapest i think?)

CAI looks great when its clean and is overpriced. The lid does the same thing and keeps your filter dry and alot cleaner. The ls1 CAI isn't as bad as the LT1's kit, it basically was a sponge that kept the inside of your bumper dry. GO WITH A LID.

all lids flow the same. the only one they say flows better is the FAST TOYS 85mm lid. but you need to get a 85mm maf to go with it, and i also heard about clearance of hood issues.

You can use the Fast Toys 85mm lid with a stock sized MAF if you purchase our adapter for 8.00.

As far as hood clearance issues go, we have only had two cars (Z28's) that had issues (not exactly sure why). If you buy a lid and it causes hood interference problems, you can return it as long as you don't damage it in any way

A regular lid if fine if you dont do ram air. But i think you get the best results with the K&N and either a ram air kit or free ram air. Thats what i have and i think its flows great, but i have yet to test a lid to see if the gains are truely there.

the lid and filter is the best way, ram air isnt going to be functional until like 50mph, and its not like its boosting horse power that high, u may pick up a little but thats about it

About 1-1.5 MPH in the quarter mile is a significant increase

you should check out my post about ram air...yeah a lid versus cai might be equal but with a cold air you cant get the benifit of the RAM AIR that a custom intake gives or a FTRA, SSRA etc.
