Default ASP Pulley with Katech tensioner walking??

Sorry for the newbie type question but with my cam swap last night I decided to put an ASP pulley on the car and as soon as I get on it hard it will walk halfway off the power steering and the tensioner pulley. So I put on a used Katech tensioner and it still does the same thing. Yes I verified the alignment of all the pulleys and the belt with a straight edge. It will not walk under normal driving or moderate throttle but every so many times I decide to get on it hard it will do it. Not everytime which does not make sense. So I figured I would ask some of you guys that might of had this problem. Also the tensioner pulley is my stock piece. I tried to get the pulley with the raised lip but then my belt is too short. Maybe I need 1 size larger belt and the use of the tensioner pulley with the higher lip?? Thanks for the help.

are you sure you didn't strip out the threads on the crank when you put the underdrive pulley on?

Yes I did everything to spec with the old bolt and then the new bolt to 37ft lbs + 140 degrees. I did use the special GM tool to install the pulley. This is my 6th cam swap in the last 10 years and I never had this issue with the stock pulley. It just started this morning since the asp was put on there last night.

Also, before I threw the Katech on there I just swapped out the stock tensioner pulley with one with a higher lip and it did not do it. Just thought it would not hurt to put the Katech one on to be safe but that's not working for me.

If the ASP pulley is causing it, I'd go back to the stocker. A few more HP isn't worth throwing belts...something isn't right somewhere. It sounds like you are confident in your install, so I'd take a hard look at the part next.

It has not been mentioned and I am no way trying be an ***. But did you use a shorter belt with the ASP pulley? You said you swapped back but didn't say anything about the belt.

The tensioner pulley should be the same diameter, just the outer lips are higher.....You may want to try a higher lip Alt & PS pulley as well. Here are pics of ours:

The belt sizes were swapped. The stock length is way too big for the asp pulley. I am going to try the stock tensioner with the shortened belt and raised lip pulley. If that does not work I will take the asp pulley off the car.

Used the laser today and they were spot on. Used the katech with a larger lip tensioner pulley and so far so good. If it does happen again I will not hesitate to put the stocker back on. Thanks guys for the help.

Last year I had my belt walking off of the damn tensioner pulley at higher rpms also. I dont know why, it just decided to walk that year.

I swapped out the stock tensioner with the Katech WITH the higher lip pulley!
Problem solved.
