Default Got my headers in, car is running, BUT....

Couple things. Its an ls6.

1. Check engine light came on. Funny thing is, in didnt come on till the 2nd time I drove it. I turned it on prolly 20 times with no check engine light? Hope nothings messed up

2. I couldnt fit my torque wrench to torque the spark plugs (which I left out of the box gapped tr-55's) or the header bolts to spec. So I tightened till I felt it was solid. Whats the torque spec on the bolts from the motor to gasket to the header?

3. Im hearing a wierd whirring/engine noise coming from the engine when the throttle is blipped. Does this mean I prolly have a leak where the header meets the motor?

4. I hear my exhaust tinging, is this the new welds getting adjusted. Or is something prolly just rubbing....like the bar across the x pipe area?

5. The guy who welded the fabbed connection pipes took all 4 o2 sensors out, saying without cats they are useless, and dont do anything. Is this correct?

Thanks alot.

rear o2s are useless, front o2s determine air:fuel ratio MANDATORY you HAVE to have the two front o2s

1. Check engine light is because you took all 4 O2 sensors out.
You can take the back two out but you still have to have them turned
off in the PCM. You need the front two back in at least. It is very
possible that it took a little driving before it threw a code for the O2
sensors.
2. Don't know what the actual torque specs are on either, but your fine
with just tightening the spark plugs down reasonably.
You might want to throw some anti seize on the threads to make sure
they don't seize. Tighten the Header bolts down and then re-check them
after you heat and cool them a few times.
3. Whirring noise is very possibly an exhaust leak. Listen closely or feel
around the pipes without touching anything and try to find it.
4. Tinging may happen at first while the metal expands and contracts as it
heats and cools. It could also be something hitting somewhere. If it
stops eventually while the car is running or if it keeps tinging after the
car is turned off then it is just expansion/contraction. If not, something
is hitting or your just hearing a little more exhaust noise then your used
to. Mine sounds like it's tapping every since I put my headers on.......
5. No, not correct.....

if the idiot who welded up the 02 bungs on youre brand new headers than you gonna need to drill and re-tap those. Without them your cars effed. I wouldnt drive it until you have that fixed. As for the rest:

1. Mine did the same thing. Came on after a few rides. Dont worry about it. Get the rear o2 codes deleted.

2. I think the header bolts are 18 ft/lbs. Work from the center out when tightning.

4. You need to be more specific. Is it banging the floorboard? Could be just the new sound of the exhaust that ur not used to.

5. Absolutley NOT CORRECT! get that **** fixed ASAP. Read the sticky at the top of this forum!

Just installed my pacesetters LT on today, or should i say saturday.

1)My ses light came on after 20 minutes of driving it. Some people get it sooner. Remeber to get your O2s in. The front ones need to be connected or get some o2 simulators

2) Specified torue spec is 11ft/lbs the first time around and the 18 ft/lbs when you tighten them. Start from middle and outwards.

I am also experiencing some unfamiliar noices on my car. Im going to drive my car a couple of weeks till everthing settles down.

I can't believe someone that works at a shop can be stupid enough to take all 4 O2's out...is he really that F-ed up or did you tell him to do that? That guy needs a quick kick to the junk for being that stupid!

You will run rich. Waste more gas thats about it. The tingy metallic sound might be your Y pipe or some part of the new exhaust hitting something.

Put your front O2s in asap. You can foul up your plugs in no time.
