Default crankcase pressure

I have been running open breathers on my valvecovers insted of the pcv system. I keep blowing out rear main seals. I think my crankcase is not breathing good enough. Has anyone had this problem or can help?

I have never heard of this...Tell us more about your motor like how high you are revving it and what power it is putting down etc.

The PCV system will evacuate the crankcase by using manifold vacuum. Without PCV you will rely on the pistons to push blowby gasses out your breathers. Breathers are typically designed to let air in, not out. Your problem may be that the pressure drop across your breathers is larger than what your main seal can hold, thus you are blowing that seal out.

I would either re-install the PCV system, or install something like the Moroso crankcase vacuum pump.

ok thanks, I was thinking about trying the kit that mr gasket makes. It comes with 2 breathers and have hoses that run into the headers to use the exhuast as the vacum preasure.

PCV does not flow enough to do anything but scavenge stanky gas
out of the block. If you're pushing out seals that's a crankcase
pressure problem and not likely the PCV's fault (though weepage
at idle / cruise, might be). If you have huge blowby and a sealed
crankcase then that could push seals out. At least breathers
would keep the pressure to a minimum, but it will always be slightly
positive which is bad for weep control.

ive recently had the same issues with my combo and used my factory air pump. i teed to the pass valve cover and ran it on toggle thru a catch can and was able to draw about 4-5 inches of vaccum.. i only use it on a hard pass run. thought about running two to get more just have not did it yet.

Correct. But I suspect he has deeper issues....ring land broke or excessive bore or ring wear. Do a leak-down test as well.

this is a new motor. I might have about 1000 miles on it.

I like the factory air pump ideal. I would like some more detail. Are both covers tied to gether and what do you use when you are just driving down the road since you only use the air pump when you run the car hard?
