Default Header and Y-Pipe install....now problems....

I took my car to a shop and had them do nearly a complete overhaul on my exhaust. They did the following:

-Installed QTP race headers
-Removed egr and air
-Installed tr55 plugs and msd wires
-built a custom Y to mate to the existing Magnaflow catback
-No o2's in the rear, just have the permanent "check engine light" on

So they finished and I went to pick up the car. I had to go straight to work so I didn't have any time to check for any issues. On my way to work I pulled away from the first light at a little over 1/4 throttle and felt a huge *clunk* from almost right below the center console. I figured it was my Y banging the floor board, going back tomorrow morning to have them take a peek at it. Secondly, after getting it up to speed slowly I gave it some gas and the car sputtered to get up to speed. Finally after getting on the freeway I tried gunning it from about 60 and the car sputtered like crazy and it sounded like an old beat up truck splattering and backfiring. Not sure if I just need a tune now or maybe it's something simple. What could be going on?

Check your spark plug wires. They might not have gotten them "double clicked".

Yeah, check the plugs and plug wires to make sure they are connected properly.

The banging is more than likely the Y pipe on the bottom of the car as you said. Its always a good idea to upgrade the motor mounts if you do a header swap to long tubes it seems. I just did mine and upgraded to the prothane polyeurethane mounts I love them. No banging at all. Make sure that when they hooked up the front O2 sensors that they plugged them into the front harnesses and not the rear harneses. I have heard of this happening. Also check the plugs like everyone else says.

The banging is probably your Y-pipe hitting the floorboard and can be fixed by a couple of different ways. As far as the sputtering you just need to check all of your plugs and wires like everyone has said. Make sure the wire 'double clicks' onto the coil pack and is fully seated on the plug and make sure no plugs were cracked.

I'll definitely check all the plugs and wires. Will the car sound more like a muscle car and less like a beat down old truck once the problem is fixed hopefully?!?!

ABSOLUTELY!

It sounds like a beat down old truck because more likely than not, you are running on less than 8 cylinders which is driving your 02 sensors nutz. They are seeing an extremely rich condition beacuse if you have a cylinder not getting spark, it's pushing unburnt fuel into the exhaust as well as more oxygen. So the computer is calling for more fuel because it's reading more oxygen. So now you're running on less than 8 cylinders, and the ones that are actually firing are so rich, that they are misfiring as well, and hence that old beat down sound.

Same thing happened to me. My car idled like it had a huge cam. It just ended up being that one of the wires wasn't in all the way.

Poly motor mounts. My y-pipe has NEVER hit the floor . But that's an install I don't want to do again anytime soon lol

its def. a bad wire, or one that is not clicked down all the way. I had the same problem after my header install. Changed the plugs and wires and the problem went away.

Poly mounts are the right way to fix it. You can try those hangers, people have mixed results with them. Most guys that don't have poly mounts resort to just stuffing some rubber or some other dampener in between the pipe and floorboard.

FWIW my car has poly mounts and the Pacesetter Y never touches my floorboard.

Took my car to a shop today to see what codes were throwing since I haven't had a free second to check my plugs and wires. He said that it didn't show any misfires so he assumed all the plugs and wires were fine. It just threw the air/egr/and rear o2's codes. Also said that the front o2's had low voltage, is that normal?
