Im getting bad gas mileage....need help figuring out the cause
i had the fuel pump go out awhile ago and on that tank of gas its gotten worse ever since. Im gonna do a tune up with new plugs and wires but im afraid of ruining the new plugs if im running rich. thinking it might be the o2 sensors and im gonna replace those too.
My question is how can i tell if im running rich and/or wats causing the bad mpgs?
I also am running an open y pipe....dunno if that matters at all but just throwin it in there.

Pull out a plug and check if its got blackish stuff around it or where it screws into the block. This could be an indication of you running rich. Also watch for smoke out the exhaust. Im also running an open y-pipe and i get 19-20 mpg daily driving in town with me driving fiarly spirited. Somethings not right. Maybe your fuel pump is putting out to much fuel.

I had the codes checked and its not throwing any for o2 sensors or anything other than my unplugged skip shift thing. would it be worth my time to buy new o2 sensors even if they arnt throwing codes?
If its running rich how can i correct this?

Well first of all an ls1 wasnt made to get good gas mileage. As much as we all want it, its not there. I was running on no tune for about a month and the whole time (even now) I have had at least one bad 02 sensor.
And getting to the #8 plug...I went from underneath (with headers, wires, and MM's out...and engine jacked up) to get the plug OUT. When I put it back in I just got a unversal socket and I was able to get a good enough angle.

i got the new plugs in and i have new wires coming to.
Im trying to pinpoint whats causing the bad mileage but i have no clue. Not throwing any o2 sensor codes. theres a good tuning place around here that could look at all the computer readings and stuff for about 90 bucks. is it worth the money?

Next time you fill up, ask the clerk if they are using E10.. Here in Oklahoma alot of gas stations are using 20%.. I've noticed a pretty significant change in mileage after filling up with the stuff.. Usually how you can tell is anything under $4 for 91 octane will probably be E10.. May not be your problem, but it will cause your mileage to drop off, I know it did mine.
