Default why is y pipe so close to floorboard??

guys i just put my headers in today, they both slipped in in like 5 minutes, anyways, after installing y pipe i noticed that on the drivers side the pacesetter y pipe is so close to the floor board! i mean i dont think i can even put my finger between it! i also installed the poly motor mounts, but is it normal for it to be so close like that to the floor board? i even loosened the headers and reinstalled them to try to get some more room between there

I know what you mean, we had to wrap high heat material around the gas lines that run right there too where the cat was on the Pacesetter/tsp catted y set up I just installed.

It's normal. Why? GM royally screwed us on room for the exhaust. If your not lowered you might be able to adjust it down a bit. The problem is there isn't much room to work with. On my car, the Y would need to be oval shaped to have decent clearance on the floorboard as well as the ground.

Yeah its normal for the Y to be close to the underside of the car. that is why many Y pipes have a flat pipe section on the driver side and why soo many people have problems with the Y hitting if they keep the stock Motor mounts.

thank god i did the motor mounts, i started and drove the car today after LT's and poly mounts, im surprised it dident bang with that little clearance! but i have great ground clearance, better then my stock y pipe clearance, i do hear a very light rattle, i think the catback is either touching the torque arm or the catback is touching part of the panhard rod brace

The pacesetters tuck up there very well. I have seen hookers and they are not that great. I actually think that the hookers hang to low and that is why they always scraped.

It is prolly a heat shield by the rear end right next to the gas tank

o im sorry i meant the torque arm was not to far away from the y pipe when the suspension was loaded! so hopefully the torque arm doesent smack the y pipe, i think its that top bar above the panhard rod that may be touching, ill double check tho

After I got mine all welded up I just heated the y-pipe and bent it down maybe a half inch or so. It wouldnt knock when I was just driving but when I pushed on the gas say to pass someone the torque would push it into the floorboard. Nothin 10 min, a jack, and pry-bar wont fix :-)

i would get rid of those u bolts-pick up some band clamps. you're exhuast might not hit right now, but you are running the chance that the clamps are going to hit. band clamps are cheap at about ten bucks a piece and do a better job, here are mine-
