Default Weird idle all of a sudden

My car started acting up today for the first time. Turn it on and ride into town no problem. Start it back up and the idle jumps between 450 and 700 ( usually idles at 900) i give it some gas cause it acts like its about to die then let of and it starts doing it again. After a minute it idles back up fine. Go to take off and it drops rpms again. Every red light i had to keep my foot on the gas a little. Get home it drops rpms 450-700 again for a minute then back to normal 900. any idea what it could be?

un plug your IAC and see if it still does it. it should revert to base idle when you unplug it, if it quits, replace the IAC,

its not gonna be the fuel filter. unless perhaps you didnt install it right. i mean u just replaced it you know. so check the throttle cable or something. just look over the engine.

I'll try that but doubt that is it because when it was doing it i scanned through my interceptor guage and everything was normal (besides rpm) the iat was areound 80 degrees about what it was outside

the iac would make sense do you have a tune on the car? is your fuel pump whining at all that you can hear....if it is then check your filter first because that would make the pump work hard to get the correct ammount of fuel delivered ....it will be somethin to do with your fuel delivery or possibly even the amount of air gettin to the engine that why i was wonderin if you had the car tune if you did was it with a computer or a handheld

Yeah harris did a dyno tune when the cam was put in. Fuel pressure is between 58- 62 at the rail all the time.

When you start it, try to hold the RPM's steady at around 1,000 for a few seconds. Then let it go to idle. That is what I do when I experience this same issue.

I had this problem for awhile. It's probably just something in the tune. Take it back to whoever tuned it for you, if someone did tune it for you obviously.

Does it want to die when you lightly push on the throttle when it's doing this, or does it rev up? If it acts like it wants to die, you might need a new fuel pump. If it's responsive and revs up, only to stall as the RPM's come back down, then I say it's the tune. I had both these issues...

You can add "idle saver" to your tune. But this will make it over rev slightly while in neutral and not at 0 mph (idle). Good luck, keep us posted!

it acts fine with my foot controling the idle. I just didn't think it would be in the tune since it has ran fine for the last 3 months since the cam. Ill be goin and trying the iac here in a few minutes

check the battery's ground cable for corrosion. mine was really corroded inside the boot where it connected to the battery and i never knew it.
