Default True duals with or w/o cat HELP!!!

ok so the car is going to be on its way to the exhaust shop in about a week (99 z28), but am having trouble deciding if i should delete the cats or not? iv herd that no cats with a y pipe can make it sound more raspy and not as good but also herd that true duals dont realy have any rasp so would cats or no cats really make a sound diference? also would no cats increase the HP by much?
i have Dynatech LT's with high flow cats right now. keep them or no?

after much thinking i am going with 3" short powersticks and X pipe with 2.5" pipeing run out the back.
thanks for any input.

rasp depends highly on the muffler used. I don't know much about the powersticks, but any open chambered (i.e. non fiberglass packed) muffler is going to sound raspy with an X-pipe. You can minimize it somewhat with some cats, but it will still be there. If you are considering an open muffler like this, go with an H-pipe, you will be happier with the sound. The performance difference between the X and H pipes is more a matter of RPM range than actual power anyway (H-pipes tend to be stronger in the midrange whereas X-pipes like higher RPM). Any exhaust, dual or otherwise can be raspy, ask the Mustang guys

I've had my H-pipe duals with and without cats, I went back with the cats just to tone it down a little and control the sound somewhat. It's all a matter of personal preference. Some people like it stupid loud and others want it deep and refined. That's why there are so many different types of mufflers but cats do make a small difference in the overall sound. The best system to have is a way to have both worlds. Whether it be cutouts or a way to easily unbolt the back 1/2 of the exhaust system and just have small mufflers with turndowns before the axle. My system uses 2 small cats, h-pipe to 2 Powersticks before the axle and flanged to pipes over the axle to 2 full size Dynomaxx mufflers and then out the back.

how long are the medium sticks?

I'm wanting to get the longest sticks possible b4 the axle, and then extend it out the back.

I'm keeping my cats too.
