Default Difference between going over or under the axle for True Duals????

Is there a major difference between goin over the axle or under the axle for true duals? im gonna do an h-pipe and magnaflow bullets. I took the car to a buddies shop and he was tellin me that i wouldnt be able to do over the axle. but im pretty sure u can. im guessin hes just too lazy to do the extra work to go over the axle. So he wants to do it under the axle. i know the pipes will be lower than usual, but are there any other disadvantages or problems??

Other than ground clearance issues, when you lift/jack up the car, the exhaust could interfere with your rear suspension travel. You could flange the exhaust before the axle so it could easily be removed.

I had to go to several shops before I found one that would it. Most said you can't fit duals over the axle. I had them on my last T/A, so I know it's possible. I even brought pictures from the TD sticky.

The guy that ended up doing it ran a pipe over each side of the axle. He said he just couldn't get a second pipe over the passengers side even though he saw pics of it done. It's fine with me that way and it works.

Under the axle shouldn't really cause you any problems since it will raise over obstacles like speed bumps as the tires go over it. If he's going to do it for a good price, I say go for it. Otherwise check with some other shops, but you may get stonewalled like I did.

yea i figured lifting it up might be a pain in the ***. but i could find a way around it. i thought he was just being lazy, but i guess not. he said he would do everything including h-pipe and install bullets and exhaust tips for $150, so thats pretty damn good. i guess if i did it under the axle there would be less piping?? is that right?

to run over the axle there is a panhard relocation that bmr makes for around $300 or less. this runs two pipes over the passenger side .

there are a good bit of folks going under the axle . it is just how much the size of pipe you use like 3" or 2.5 or using 3 then going to a 2.5 under the axle . its a half inch clearence though . got to watch it when going fast into a dip in the road .

If you get it under axle make sure you have enough clearance as some people have had their exhaust close to the under side of the axle and it can hit when you lift the car.....

do you really want to take your exhaust off everytime you lift the car?

I have under axle TD's and I have no problems whatsoever. I'm using a summit H pipe and moroso spiral flows, it sounds really good. Plus, it takes all of 2 bolts and a tug to remove it when I need to get the transmission or something out. Clearance under the lowest part (mufflers) is about 4-5 inches I would guess, a little less than a soda can.

Under the axle looks like crap. I've seen guys do it over the axle on both sides, it can be done.

me and hilton did these....its flanges right before the rear axle so it can be removed easily. he always jacks the car by the center of the rear end and doesn't have any problems.

Do it right and do it once, go over the axle. Takes more work but it's a cleaner install. Expecially on a Camaro. You Camaro guys don't have a low bumper to hide all the pipes, like the picture above.

seriously in hiltons defense, the **** looks pretty good. he pulled it back off, painted it all black, he flanged dumps so he could run no tips whenever he feels like it. that camera angle is actually terrible. when looking at the car from the back you dont even notice the pipes. honest. actually the camera man is slanting down the driveway while taking the pic.....

Under looks GHETTO! Do it right go over. If you do it on both sides make sure you header wrap so as not to burn any of the wiring for the fuel pump and fuel lines. You must have a panhard relocation for true duals on the right.

The angle of the camera has nothing to do w/ anything. When you are driving behind a fbody, be it a Camaro or T/a you can see it easily and its GHETTO period.

1. Camera angle DOES matter.
2. If anything, it looks badass, not ghetto.
3. It is much easier than going over.
