Raspy sound after installing ORY

Hi,

I just installed a Mac off-road Y-pipe that bolts up to my stock manifolds. I figured it would get a little louder without the cats, but I'm not liking the sound at all. It gets very raspy in certain rpm ranges (mainly the mid-range). It sounds a lot like a Honda motor with a fart-pipe. So I want to mellow the tone out again and am thinking about installing a couple of small bullet mufflers that would help mellow it out and make the sound be a little closer to what it sounded like with the cats in. Any suggestions on a good muffler to go with?

To be honest, I don't really see the point in doing that...basically removing restrictive cats and replacing them with restrictive mufflers? I would think you just offset your HP gain right there by going with the ORY to begin with.

If it were my car and I didn't like the sound, then I guess I'd just have to put the stock Y-pipe on...

The stock Y-pipe is super-restrictive for whatever reason. I think one of my cats might be partially plugged. On the dyno, I gained 33 HP by taking out my stock Y-pipe (we did before-and-after testing within about 20 minutes). I got a definite seat-of-the-pants improvement in power. Pretty amazing, really. And the Mac pipe has a larger diameter, which is probably also helping with flow.

Anyhow, I would think I could find a couple of low-restriction bullet mufflers that would help with the rasp without having much effect on my HP.
