Soldier in Iraq needs help Hey I am currently deployed to Iraq and I am looking at an 01' camaro from a user on here his name is zmonsterjb and the installed a built lq9 shortblock with what seems to be an ls6 top end,
I am a blackhawk machanic so I dont know to much about cars that why I am posting this thread after doing a lot of research i was very interested in the car but as of late I seen something that bothers me on the valve cover he has wrapped the breather with a red shop towel he said it was to stop the mist from the crank case pressure? Well im just not sure if this is normal i am looking for a daily driver type of car like a toy and I am just not sure how reliable the car whould be?
Can anyone out there help me out and give a little input on what i can do thanks a lot

He is venting the crankcase pressure to the atmosphere. Not a problem but you will have a VERY dirty engine bay. The rag is normal to try and combat the oil mist.

I look at it this way. The best he could do to vent the crankcase pressure is to use a rag??!?!? What other stuff is then hacked?? Thats a red flag on that setup if you ask me. DO yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The simplest thing to do he could only manage a rag... What do you think happened when something complicated came up? How did he fix that?
Woud you use a rag on a blackhawk?? to prevent oil mist when a simple oil cap filter can be had for cheap ??? OR even better a catch can setup ?? We're not talking rocket science here. Stear clear IMO, thats a complete a hack job way to deal with it.

The rag is wrapped around the "smiple oil cap filter" to prevent mist from hitting the engine bay

Ahhh,...LOL thats not what I had pictured in my mind.....
Ok, yep looks good,controlling the mist with it. The link wasnt working when I tried to look at it. I pictured a hose off the valve cover with a rag wrapped around it.. LMAO!!

Its aprefiilter also, You can go with a catchcan setup to do the same thing. No need in puting in back into the engine via the pcv system. I used to work on blackhawks,apaches and chinooks. You would believe the crap some people try to pull as maintaince.
Not really, I know alot of pilots who cant tell a wrench from an engine. Or not to leave any of thier crap on the flight deck. Exspecialy right on the pirimary flight controls. Or here is a funny one you might like, When friction is on, Flight control is hard to move. I had some guys before I went into my last unit coudnt figure why the Helo would not defuel,Had the ESSS hooked up. And to save a rig pin, they disconnected the servos from at the swash plate under hyd press! Ever seen a swash plate lift and slam down on a transmission?
