Default X-pipe folks please chime in...

I'm having a custom 3" dual exhaust made for my car, my question is...are some of you buying a manufactured X-pipe that's welded in or are all these custom shop "one offs"???

If you are buying...where?
If it's a custom..any pics?

I was going with an "H" config. but after all the hype on the "X" setup I guess I'll go with the "X"...

Thanks much!!!

Ron

I bought the DR Gas junction and pipe set. I wish I had just bought the junction because we ended up fabbing up a bunch of our own stuff.

The Dr. Gas kit worked pretty nice on my car. Couple of issues, needed a couple of bends to get the driver header to line up because the driver header comes off at an angle. Second, needed some attitional 3 inch straight sections to finish the project.

I too have the Dr. Gas kit.. I have no clue why people spend $600 on x-pipe kits, the dr gas kit is 195 and only requires a little bit of modificaiton on the driver side header to get it to line up right, like previously stated. It's all slip fit too excpet for where it mounts to the headers so you just slip the pipes in and weld to the X.

I used one bent piece to straighten the header out and needed a little bit of straight pipe, which the exhaust shop usually gives me free when I only use a small piece. I used a slip fit expanded piece with slits in it to slip over the driver header with a clamp that tightens it on. It is easily removed because of the slits in the pipe. The passenger side butts up to the header over there and uses a wide band clamp. Two hangers at the turndowns in the rear. Ended up working out awesome. Really easy to remove and install when you need to. A buddy of mine made his custom y pipe with both sides slip fit onto the headers. It's a major PITA to get it on and off since the headers don't come off at the same angle. That's how I came up with the idea to make mine the way I did.

Excellent idea!!!

I think I'm just going to flange on both ends though.

FYI to help hang the mufflers, remove the rear seat bolts that stick out at the bottom near the end of the car (above the mufflers).. and go to the hardware store and get one about an inch longer, you can put that bolt in place of the stocker, and use the hanger on the extended bolt length with a nut on the end.

Thats a good idea, I can't believe that idea didn't occur to me when I was working on my exhaust. I ended up just welding the hangers to the body with some very small welds.

Dr Gas
Got the kit from them. Only needed the two modifications mentioned above to make it work. I also ordered my mandrel bent turndowns from Dr Gas. I run TR LTs on my car

have any of you used the 3x2.5" dr.gas universal kit?

did you guys loose any low-end with a complete 3" true duals setup?

The dr gas kit comes with flanges and bolts. hangers are cheap and if you can do your own welding or have a shop or friend that can weld its easy.

$215 for the dr gas kit shipped.
$100 for a set of sprial flows.
$100 for an exhaust shop to weld and install and hang.

comes out to $415. Now if you do the welding/install yourself its even cheaper. Only real snag you have is lining up the driver side header.

We've done many for guys wanting the quieter Magnaflow mufflers(only 2.5" in bullet size), and they work very well.

And - I've never seen a 3" X system of any kind not pick up a good amount of torque - and power all across the power band.
