LOOK HERE!!! NEED ANSWER ASAP!!!
I was wondering if anyone had just removed their factory muffler and just ran a y into the factory tail pipes?! Ya' know, kinda like the LM but without the bullet style resonator. I am considering doing this tomorrow bcz I am going to Pigeon Forge, TN this weekend for the Grand Fall Rod Run.

I ran stock manifolds/cats/y-pipe and just an open y-pipe for a while. It sounded pretty decent until I let off the gas.. the cats would make a fluttering sound. It was a pretty sweet cruise/WOT note though. Very mellow yet very mean.

Re: LOOK HERE!!! NEED ANSWER ASAP!!!
I had my LM on for a few month and it sounded good. Definitely your cats and manifolds will be your limiting factor as far as sound goes. If it were me I would not butcher anything and get into a bigger bind with such a short time to work on this project(i.e tips not being even or crooked). Also if you are trying to impress prople I would not do this, I say this because after hooker LT's w/ ORY and my LM it is no longer a good sound it is a really, really mean sound so I imagine people at that event will have LT's and no cats as well making for some awesome sounding cars.

Tell xfactor to go to hell. I did exactly that and it sounded great. No drone, nice deep idle, screams above 2500rpm. Just put a dynomax bullet muffler where the stock resonator is in the I-Pipe and fabricate a second y pipe for the tail pipes. Does get a little loud if you remove the cats though.

my SS has the slp Y on it and i ran my strait cats for a while out the tailpipes and i loved the way it sounded..and i got a lot of compliments.. i dont know how much different my Y is from a stock Y though....its a nice smooth tone..but when you get on it..it has a nice mean, and loud tone

I ran no y pipe for a while, but quickly got tired of it because there was so much vibration inside the car because of the sound exiting right under the middle of the car. Looked kinda funny to me too, with no tailpipes coming out the back on a trans am.
