it was to get attention to the thread, and it's kinda fun (former ms3 owner here, and I'd never knock the ms3)

and look at his race weight
look at the 3.23 gears

he's not knocking the big cams, just trying to get people to look before they leap into a big cam they may not be totally happy with

Good write up Chris. I have been preaching this for years, but most people DON'T listen. It's all in a well engineered combo(like PG said), and a cam profile that is going to work in the cars USUABLE rpm range(key factor here newbies). Just to back up your story, I can relate because the fastest LS1 car in my town still has a JPH speced 22X/23X cam in it and still beats all the 23X+&24X+ cam guys all day long! Good job man!

Anyone notice the mineshaft air he's running in? Not knocking him, just stating something to consider.

I've engine dyno tested 228 & 230 duration camshafts next to the MS4 camshaft on the same engine dyno on the same day. The MS4 camshaft will make approximate 10-15hp over a 230 duration XER based camshaft typically. That 10-15 won't make a huge, huge difference in ET, but when building for max power the MS4 camshaft is really hard to beat.

We've tested the MS4 camshaft next to tons of different camshafts including several competitors supposed super camshafts. We've tested against popular 240/244 camshafts & 244/248 camshaft & the MS4 made more hp than the 240/244 camshaft, equal power to the 244/248 camshaft & made torque peaks earlier than both camshafts!

With the MS4 you get better piston to valve, earlier torque peak, and a power gain that can only be rivaled by competitors camshafts with 5+ more degrees of duration.

It's dyno testing like this is what helps us to make sure we provide our customers with the most powerful camshafts we can provide. The MS4 camshaft is definately a max effort camshaft that isn't for everyone. That's why we offer a huge variety of camshafts all the way from our 220 camshafts to the MS4....

The MS4 pushed our cam only car to 10.40s with stock heads, stock unported FAST 90 intake, 85mm maf & a weight of something like 3050....

My friend has pretty much the exact same setup. He has stock LS6 heads and a 3.08 gear, but he has the same cam and stall. He hasn't finished his yet, but I'm sure he'll be happy to see this.

Damn I'm like 200-250lbs lighter than that. My goal was 10s all motor and with a 4.56 and 30" slick you've given me new hope! Even though my cams slightly larger i think it'll work well with the carb setup.

would love to see the setup and DA you ran in...i seen the ms3 on the cam only list with -1000 DA and 3175 raceweight running a 10.51...

with -1000 foot i will be around 10.80s drop another .15 for a 90/90 intake and another .1 for 100lbs

equal conditions I should be around a 10.55...against the ms3 setup

equal conditions against the ms4 another 100lbs 10.45 if da was -1000 too???

still on the 3.23s of course

I love all these cams ms3/ms4, trex even the new polluter looks real promising...just too many people get those cams and dont realize the correct supporting mods that go alone with them, and that they really are for a max effort track only setup...

i think where the 230/230 cam shines is the tq...compare my 60ft to another cam only setup...

yeah i wish i was that light...i hope you break into the 10s too...i just love how hard this car hits off the line 1.400 with 3.23s and a 4000 stall...just think of what it would be with some 4.10s and a 4400...too bad yank doesnt make a ss4400

i am happy, keep and eye out in the drag racing section...i got some 10.80s that have my name on them if i can get some -DA...

pray for my 10 bolt

Haha Yeah i hope your 10 bolt holds up too man. I cant believe you're puling those kinds of times on a stock 10 bolt. Being a 3.23 helps you though, bigger teeth less likely to break and you have that giant torsional shock absorber . I'm sure if you were am M6 you'd have broken that rear ten times over.

Do you even have a car or anything or the techs just realy like you?

Props Chris on the setup and times, huge cams are not for DD's. Be nice to see some 10.8's.
