Patriot Stg II 5.3L pics, flow numbers, questions (no 56k)
well i got my heads in the mail today, here are a bunch of pics of them
couple questions:
1) i noticed on the intake port there is a small hole into the rocker arm hole, ive heard this is normal and all i need to do is add some rtv to the rocker arm stud. is this correct??
2) also what casting are the "862"'s, 4.8L truck?
3) they came with comp 978's (hugeass springs), can i reuse my stock lifters?
4) would it be wise to smooth out the machine marks on the intake ports, or are they there to help the mixture? they are far less noticable than the exhuast ports
any comments, suggestions, questions.
im sure ill post more questions when i think of them, thanks

That's interseting. I havn't seen a 862 casting. I just checked my 5.3L ported heads. The are the 706 castings.
Below are the stock specs on the untouched 5.3L truck heads:
Casting Number 706
99+ 4.8L Truck P/N 12559852
99+ 5.3L Truck P/N 12561706
Material: Aluminimum
Combustion Chamber Volume: 61.15cc
Intake Port Volume: 200cc
Exhaust Port Volume: 70cc
Intake Valve Diameter: 1.89 inches
Exhaust Valve Diameter: 1.55 inches

The 4.8/5.3 casting numbers are #862 and #706.Gm hightech listed a #852 that number is wrong.I have some of both castings.

My PP S2 5.3s are the 862 castings as well...
I see they are porting the intake a little differently now since I got mine.
BTW - Just be sure to check for clearance between the rockers and retainers. I know Terry made some spring/retainer changes since mine, but it never hurts to check. Mine were hitting, so I ended up getting a set of Yella Terra 1.7s (like I needed an excuse ).
Have fun with the install!!!

Hmm, I got no flow sheet with mine. I have to say they do look good though, I just got mine the other day. I didn't get a dog with mine either. I feel as if I have been ripped. Wonder how they fit him in that box??? Terry, I MIGHT have to get in contact with you in a couple of days. I might need a small favor, but I won't ask until I am sure of what's going on. Thanks, Jason

Very nice pics, good luck with them, Id like to know how much wider than stock they are. The intake ports look huge I guess Terry went a little bigger than the 213 cc int port he was using before. Looks almost like the TEA ports but maybe they all look the same to me. What cam are you going to match them to? what did you name the dog?

On my list. Nice looking heads. Should I wait for the new intake design? What will this do for the heads?

The intake port is not as huge as it looks. It is the same width as before.Tally requested a flow sheet.Every set of heads flow within a couple of cfm from each other.
